SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego Police said Wednesday officers detained a woman who reportedly had a shotgun in the parking lot of the department's headquarters.Police said a woman drove into the parking lot just before 12:30 p.m. One department employee saw she was armed with a shotgun, police said.Officers quickly surrounded the woman's vehicle and a Psychiatric Emergency Response Team (PERT) was on hand to assess and provide support to the woman, SDPD added.Within about 10 minutes, the police said the woman was detained. Several weapons and ammunition were also confiscated, according to the department. 617

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Students at the University of California San Diego are still reeling from Wednesday's storm that flooded more than a dozen apartments.Students told 10News they were shocked when water poured in around 11 p.m. during the storm. One young man, who didn't want to be identified, said the water seeped in under the door and poured in through a floor-length window in their bedroom."So every angle yeah, it instantly started soaking everything under my bed," he said, adding the water was freezing cold.RELATED: Rain floods buildings on the campus of UC San DiegoHe took videos documenting the two inches of water that seeped in."If I wasn't here, then every bit of electronics we had out here would've been completely ruined, hundreds of dollars worth of stuff," the man told 10News.Another student shared her experience, saying she was walking back to her dorm after studying and found "about a 4-foot deep puddle leading up to my door." She said once she opened the door mud and water flowed in.She said the timing was terrible."I have a midterm Monday, I'm actually getting tutoring right after this, it's a bit crazy."Students scrambled, trying to get help from the university and relocate. One student told 10News she never got help from the university, despite calling multiple times Wednesday night and getting a case number.Thursday morning cleaning companies went to work, installing fans in the rooms and peeling off baseboards.Some students said the university is doing a great job."Is there something we can brainstorm to fix this so it doesn't happen in the future, because I can only imagine what's going to happen next week when it rains harder and I'd hate to come back from break and see, 'oh everything's damaged." a student said.The university said four students were relocated to temporary housing. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego State Students created public service announcements, as part of a competition, to encourage their peers to take precautions and stop the spread of the coronavirus. Thursday the university announced two more students tested positive for the virus, making the total four since move in.The County of San Diego and SDSU will use the PSAs online as part of a new ad campaign, according to the county.The university came to the county amid a spike in cases among young people age 20-29. San Diego County reported 25% of positive cases belong to that age group."We're asking people of your generation of your age group to do the right thing," Dr. Hala Madanat, Director of the School of Public Health at SDSU, said. She led the charge to create the competition."I really was hoping that we would hear from the age group where we were struggling to get adherence to the guidelines and be the ones to encourage their peers," to follow the guidelines she said.One of the three winners, Senior JakeBryan Bonifacio, said he felt an obligation to use his skills to help. "It [the pandemic] is very concerning so that’s why I felt compelled to share this opportunity, share my video."Bonifacio is a Marketing major and already had the tools to create a video. He said he used his own camera and editing software.He said it was most important to create an impact using levity and positivity. He used his pup to demonstrate social distancing, "He’s the star of the show... animals bring that lovability."While he is optimistic, he hopes to be a leader for change, to protect his peers and those more vulnerable, like his grandmothers.The winners were announced August 10th and received Apple AirPods, according to Bonifacio.SDSU has 29 confirmed coronavirus cases since March, encompassing students, staff and visitors. 1840

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego State University says 400 students have confirmed and probable cases of coronavirus.The university said Tuesday that, since August 24, 396 students have tested positive for COVID-19. Four other students have probable cases of the virus.The update comes one day after the school extended its stay-at-home order for on-campus residents through September 14.
