As the New England Patriots prepared to take the field for the AFC title game, police say the team’s owner Robert Kraft was at the Orchids of Asia Day Spa in Jupiter, Florida, soliciting a sex worker, according to new details released in the investigation.Kraft denies any illegal activity. The case has received widespread attention once authorities revealed Kraft’s involvement in the investigation. However, the case stretches far beyond the billionaire and South Florida. "I think it's very safe to say without any hyperbole that this is the tip of the tip of the iceberg,” said Sheriff William Snyder of the Martin County Sheriff’s Office. So far, 25 people have been charged with solicitation, and police believe hundreds of others could be arrested. In just three months, the investigation has already uncovered a multi-million dollar international scheme that stretches from China to New York City and Palm Beach, Florida. "It's about time the country has a real conversation about human trafficking, which is modern day slavery in our midst,” said Dave Aronberg, state attorney for Palm Beach County, in a recent presser. “This is not about lonely old men or victimless crimes.” Amanda Finger, the executive director of the Laboratory to Combat Human Trafficking, says unfortunately, this isn't the only type of trafficking they've seen. “You also see cases that involve tourism industry that involve people in the western slope, who are forced into farm work ranchers,” Finger says. Many organizations consider human trafficking the world's fastest growing crime. The most common form is sex trafficking, and the industry pulls in an estimated billion each year. According to the United Nations, most of the victims are women and girls. Finger says any community can be impacted, so she helps people and organizations recognize red flags, like poor living conditions and ways people spend money. “If they ever talk about needing to give it back to someone else, someone else is controlling their money, someone else is controlling their documentation and they don't have their ID on them,” Finger says of signs someone may be a victim. Humans rights groups hope the arrest of Kraft will bring more awareness to this pervasive problem. 2263

The longstanding 'Tribute in Light' tradition is back on with a new partner, according to that group's CEO.Frank Siller, CEO of Tunnel to Towers, told PIX11 News Friday that his group will put on the annual towers of light on Sept. 11, 2020. It had been previously canceled earlier in the week due to COVID-19 concerns for crews that put on the tribute. No other details were available, other than that the tribute is a "done deal," a foundation spokesperson said. They did not elaborate. The Tunnel to Towers website said Friday, “The foundation is doing everything in its power to make sure that the towers of light will once again be illuminated.”The 'Tribute in Light' was canceled because of concerns over the coronavirus pandemic, 9/11 Memorial and Museum spokesman Michael Frazier said. The annual reading of the names was also recently canceled. It is put on annually by the 9/11 Memorial and Museum.“The world’s beloved twin beams of light regrettably will not shine over lower Manhattan as part of this year's tributes to commemorate 9/11," Frazier said. "This incredibly difficult decision was reached in consultation with our partners after concluding the health risks during the pandemic were far too great for the large crew required to produce the annual Tribute in Light."Nearly 40 people usually work in close proximity for several weeks to produce the 'Tribute in Light' each year. The 9/11 Memorial and Museum planned to partner with NYC & Company and buildings throughout the city to light up their facades and spires in blue in commemoration of the 19th anniversary of 9/11."In a spirit of unity and remembrance, the city will come together for a 'Tribute in Lights' to inspire the world and honor the promise to never forget," Frazier said.Nearly 3,000 people were killed on Sept. 11, 2001 when hijacked planes slammed into the World Trade Center. DENTON, Texas – Get ready for some major closet envy. An impressive collection of clothing, shoes and accessories archives hundreds of years of fashion history. Some even go back 1,000 years. Step inside the 13,000 square foot space and you’ll find endless racks of clothing and accessories packed from floor to ceiling. “These are important parts of fashionista history that need to be preserved,” said Annette Becker, the director of the Texas Fashion Collection at the University of North Texas. The entire collection has been built through donations. “We have pieces that are examples of French couture from the most elite parts of the fashion design world to things that were made on someone's kitchen table by their grandmother,” said Becker. Started in 1938, UNT took custody of the collection in 1972. Since then it has grown to nearly 20,000 garments and accessories including 1,400 pairs of shoes, 2,500 hats and 750 handbags. Becker proudly shows off some of the collection’s most prized possessions. “This is a dress that Audrey Hepburn wore in the final scene of the film Charade and it was donated to us by Hubert de Givenchy who designed most of Audrey Hepburn's clothing for film,” she said. “We have a wide variety of examples from throughout fashion history in our collection and the oldest piece we have is a pre-Colombian textile fragment that's around 1,000 years old. We have to keep this really carefully stored in this acid free cardboard,” she explains. The piece was woven before synthetic dyes were even created. “So that red color really meant power and status,” said Becker. Today, the archive that spans primarily over 250 years is a valuable historical resource for researchers and students. But right now, it’s only available to visiting designers and research students. The ultimate goal is to document everything in the collection and make it accessible to anyone around the world. “Whether that's 8-year-olds who are thinking about a future career in fashion design to fashion curator curators from Paris who have come to our collection to do research,” said Becker. That means having every single item photographed and digitized so that anyone can see the collection online. Megan DeSoto, an Adjunct Photography Instructor at UNT, is spearheading the effort. “We're taking a lot of time to make these really high-resolution well-made photographs so that they're only handled once photographed once and then taken back to where they're being preserved,” said DeSoto. It’s a unique repository that Becker says will preserve centuries of fashion for generations to come.“Often in the world of fashion we think about these really elite designers and people walking the runways in Paris but really clothing is an art form that's in our everyday lives.” 2800

A nail salon in Tulsa, Oklahoma, is rushing to defend itself after an assault at its store went viral.Grace Nguyen, an employee at Hollywood Nails of Brookside said the nail salon was just following standard coronavirus safety restrictions when it required a complaining customer to wear a mask inside. The woman took to Facebook and wrote that the nail salon made her leave after she explained she’s exempt from wearing a face mask due to a medical condition.Nguyen said they offered the woman a face shield instead, and she responded by saying, “They don’t work.” Nguyen also tells 2 Works For You, the salon offered to see the woman after hours for an appointment, without a face mask, and she refused. This article was written by Mason Mauro for KJRH. 774

You can only imagine the amount of times I thought about writing this. The way I would write it, how I would feel thereafter. Well, not entirely sure why now is the right time, and what it is that feels exciting and liberating for me to talk. I cannot explain it. Many of you wonder what happened to me, where did I disappear to and why. A journalist contacted me, he found a way to reach me and I told him everything this past summer. He was kind and it felt so amazing to finally speak. The truth is, and please trust me I am ok and safe now, I was raped and drugged and held captive over some days. Of course I survived. The recovery took time. There’s no light way to say it. But I can tell you in the last decade, the thousands and thousands of days I committed to wanting to feel the sunshine in my heart again, the sun does now shine. You wonder why I did not choose to use my voice to express my pain? I did not want to show the world the sadness in my eyes. I asked myself, how can I sing from the heart if it is broken? And slowly it unbroke. In the following weeks I will be posting a spoken interview. If you have any questions I would like to answer them, in the spoken interview, if I can. I have a sacred love and sincere appreciation for your kindness over the years. You have been friends. I want to thank you for that x Duffy Please respect this is a gentle move for me to make, for myself, and I do not want any intrusion to my family. Please support me to make this a positive experience. 1524
