Among those new laws are increases to California's gas tax, new regulations on ammunition sales and a law requiring doctors to tell patients if placed on probation. Prop 63. - Ammunition salesStarting July 1, new rules for purchasing bullets will go into effect. The new rules require background checks every time someone wants to purchase ammunition. Gas tax increaseBeginning July 1, 2019, California’s gas tax is set to rise again by nearly 6 cents per gallon. The increase comes as gas prices in some states could drop below per gallon by the end of the year, according to GasBuddy. Assembly Bill 748Also taking effect July 1 is Assembly Bill 748. The bill requires body camera video and audio of police shootings and use of force incidents to be released within 45 days of the event unless it would interfere with the investigation. 1416

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) — California Gov. Gavin Newsom is expected to quarantine for 10 days after one of his staffers tested positive for COVID-19. A spokesperson for the governor's office stated the staffer tested positive Sunday afternoon. Newsom was tested after those results and his test came back negative. The statement says the governor's 10-day quarantine is out of “an abundance of caution.” Another person in the governor's office tested positive in October, and the governor tested negative back then. Last month, members of Newsom's family were exposed to someone who tested positive for the virus. Newsom, his wife and four children tested negative at that time. 685

(AP) — Attorney General Jeff Sessions will travel to California to make a major announcement about sanctuary policies that limit local and state cooperation with federal immigration authorities.Sessions is expected to speak Wednesday to law enforcement officials at an annual gathering of California law enforcement organizations in Sacramento.Trump administration officials have promised to crack down on policies that keep local law enforcement from advising federal agents when they release immigrants living in the country illegally.The administration has heavily criticized California, home to sanctuary cities such as San Francisco.In addition, Gov. Jerry Brown signed legislation last year imposing limits statewide on cooperation with federal immigration officials, although there are exceptions.ICE has said it will increase its presence in California, and Sessions wants to cut off funding to jurisdictions that won't cooperate.His announcement comes after Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf warned of an immigration sweep in advance. U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement said hundreds of immigrants eluded detention because of her warning. Agents still arrested more than 200 people during a four-day sweep.White House spokesman Sarah Huckabee Sanders said Schaaf's tweet was an "outrageous" attempt to circumvent federal authorities and was under review by U.S. Justice officials.Sessions has blamed sanctuary city policies for crime and gang violence and announced in July that cities and states could only receive certain grants if they cooperate. RICHMOND, Va. – Virginia Governor Ralph Northam and First Lady Pamela Northam have tested positive for COVID-19.On Wednesday they were notified that a member of the Governor’s official residence staff, who works closely within the couple’s living quarters had developed symptoms and had tested positive for COVID-19.The Governor and First Lady received PCR nasal swab tests Thursday afternoon and both tested positive for COVID-19, the governor’s office said.They added that Governor Northam is experiencing no symptoms and First Lady Pamela Northam is experiencing mild symptoms.The release said the Governor and First Lady will isolate for the next 10 days and evaluate their symptoms.The Governor will fulfill his duties from the Executive Mansion.“As I’ve been reminding Virginians throughout this crisis, COVID-19 is very real and very contagious,” said Governor Northam. “The safety and health of our staff and close contacts is of utmost importance to Pam and me, and we are working closely with the Department of Health to ensure that everyone is well taken care of. RIVERSIDE, Calif. – Authorities in California believe they’ve solved a 25-year-old cold case rape.The Riverside Police Department announced Friday that officers had apprehended 49-year-old Ralph Leslie Kroll in connection with the sexual assault of an 18-year-old woman in October 1995.Police say the victim was walking when she was attacked by a stranger, forced into a nearby apartment complex and assaulted.Investigative leads were exhausted and it remained a cold case until police say DNA evidence was able to identify Kroll as a suspect.After obtaining an arrest warrant for Kroll, police teamed up with the U.S. Marshals Service to locate and arrest him at his Eastvale home on Thursday. Kroll was then booked into the Robert Presley Detention Center on charges of rape by force, kidnapping, and the use of a deadly weapon by a sex offender.
