A 3-year-old boy and his 1-year-old brother were on their own -- possibly for days -- after surviving a single-vehicle crash that killed their mother in south Arkansas. The older of the two boys was found Monday morning after authorities received a 911 call about a boy who was seen walking by himself in a rural area on a state highway near Camden, Arkansas, Ouachita County Detective Nathan Greeley told CNN.The boy was covered in cuts and scrapes and appeared to have been outside for an extended period, Greeley said."You could tell he was extremely traumatized," Greeley said.Officials gave the boy a bath, food and a change of clothes and distributed a description of him. A family member contacted the sheriff's office and told authorities that the boy's 1-year-old brother was likely nearby, Greeley said. The relative also said the children's mother had not been seen since going grocery shopping on Thursday. 925

(KGTV) — The holidays can be particularly difficult for service members overseas who are missing out on spending time with their family and friends during season. That's why every year, thousands of residents across the country try to spread some cheer with care packages to troops as a way to connect, build morale, and share in the joy that comes with the holidays.Even if it's a card, holiday gestures help spread the warmth of the season.DeadlinesThe U.S. Postal Service says cards and packages should be sent to APO/FPO/DPO addresses overseas. Those should be sent no later Dec. 11 (for cards, letters and priority mail packages) and Dec. 18 (for priority mail express military service, available to most destinations.)USPS has also created military care kits, including several free postal items, to help send packages overseas. Shipping guidelines can be found here. How to helpFor those unsure of how to help, there are a few options. One method is through the USO. The organization sends a variety of holiday care packages that can support up to 50 troops a piece depending on the option chosen. A link to their offerings, including phone calls home, comfort food packages, and more can be found here.Through Dec. 31, Johnson & Johnson will also match donations to the USO up to a total of 0,000.Other organizations facilitating care packages for troops include Operation Support Our Troops and Soldiers' Angels. Military.com has a fully vetted list of organziations here.If you are sending your own package, it's recommended to stick to items that will last in the mail: Toiletries for men and women, non-perishable foods and snack (though be care with items that could get messy during the journey.) Do not send alcohol or drugs. 1752

(KGTV) - People who believe they were a part of San Diego’s water meter reading debacle got a chance to get some answers from City of San Diego officials Thursday night.Hundreds crowded into the Mira Mesa Senior Center for City Council-member Chris Cate’s Q&A forum on the water meter misreadings and subsequent over-billings. “It’s about trying to earn the trust back from the people,” said Cate on the meeting along with the oncoming audit of more than 250,000 water meters in San Diego.“I think people need to feel comfortable knowing that their meters actually can get read and read correctly,” added CateLast week, the City of San Diego admitted 343 customers in a pool of a little more than 2,000 had their water meters incorrectly read in the communities of Rancho Bernardo, Ranch Penasquitos, Carmel Valley and Mira Mesa.Water utility officials said it’s their plan to send out the refund checks in the next three to thirty days. 979

A Bay County, Mich. man was bitten by a pet cobra and given 28 vials of antivenom from Florida's Miami-Dade County.According to the Detroit Medical Center, the 26-year-old Pinconning Township man was bitten on July 14 by an Albino Monocled Cobra he was keeping as a pet.He was taken to the hospital after becoming nauseated, vomiting and drowsy. He then suffered respiratory paralysis and stopped breathing from the venom, where he was taken to the Detroit Medical Center where he was given the antivenom.Toxicology at the DMC first contacted the Toledo Zoo and eight vials of general antivenom were sent to the DMC and administered to the patient within a half hour of arrival. The antivenom covers some but not all poisonous snakes, and it had little effect on the patient as he continued to worsen. After, toxicology contacted the Miami-Dade Emergency Response Team which dispatched 20 vials of antivenom and administered to the patient. The monocled cobra is native to the Asian countries of India, China, Vietnam, and Cambodia, as well as Malaysia, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Myanmar, Laos, Nepal, and Thailand. Its venom is highly potent and among the fasting acting of all snakes', with death arriving as soon as an hour after a bite, according to Reptiles Magazine. 1272

A 60,000-square-foot museum that will include a first-of-its-kind tribute to the 1980 U.S. Olympic team is scheduled to open July 30 in Colorado Springs after a three-year construction project. The U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Museum will feature 12 galleries that include exhibits on athlete training, the Summer and Winter Games, and the USOPC Hall of Fame. The 1980 Olympics, which were held in Moscow, were boycotted by the American Olympic team in protest due to the Soviet Union invading Afghanistan, according to ABC News.“The stories of our Olympians and Paralympians are the stories of this nation’s history,” Museum Chief Executive Officer Christopher Liedel said in a news release. “Every American can see themselves in the members of Team USA and will be inspired by their dedication, perseverance, and respect for the Olympic and Paralympic values. The museum has the unique privilege of telling these stories, and we are ready and excited to share them with the world.”The museum, which will be open seven days a week, is putting safety precautions in place that will include a timed-ticketing program designed to limit the number of people in an exhibit at one time.Tickets go on sale to the public on Wednesday. 1236
