SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Arson investigators Saturday were looking into multiple fires set within a three-mile radius of each other in Ocean Beach and Point Loma.The first fire was set at about 1 a.m. on Muir Ave. in Ocean Beach. Three more fires were set on Piedmont Dr. and Catalina Pl. in the Point Loma area, San Diego Fire-Resuce Department said.No structures were damaged and no injuries were reported. Each fire was set in rubbish behind homes, according to SDFD. Due to the proximity and similarities between the small fires, fire officials said the fires were "suspicious" and arson investigators were looking at whether they were connected. No arrests have been made."The San Diego Metro Arson Strike Team (MAST) is investigating several suspicious rubbish fires which occurred last night in the Point Loma and Ocean Beach communities. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Authorities are investigating a man's death after they say he died following a fight. Police were called to the 5600 block of Imperial Avenue in Valencia Park around 1:12 p.m. after receiving reports of a man having chest pains. After arriving, the 51-year-old man -- identified as San Diego resident Joseph Ives -- was taken to the hospital where he later died.Police later learned that Ives got into a fight shortly before his death. According to police, after an altercation with another man, Ives told a witness that he was experiencing chest pains. Ives "did not have any obvious signs of trauma to his body," police said. Out of caution, San Diego Police homicide detectives are investigating the death.  773

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - As the number of vaping-related illnesses continues to rise across the country, local leaders are seeing a spike in marijuana vape users in San Diego. The DEA and local health officials are now laying out their plans to stop the crisis in our county. The number of people who have used marijuana vaping in San Diego has grown, including users who are underage. A study done by SANDAG shows 70 percent of juveniles and 61 percent of adults have reported vaping with THC products. The DEA says the best way to combat the spike is to crack down on illegal extraction labs. "The creation of the vaping cartridge process is not controlled in any way, shape, or form," says Assistant Special Agent in Charge Colin Ruane. "There's no quality control; there's no testing of the product. So when you get the THC, you don't know what you're getting and what you're inhaling."The DEA says the extraction of THC also poses a safety risk to the community. Four extraction labs have caused a fire or explosion in various areas around the county. The Center for Disease Control and Prevention has confirmed over 1,800 cases of vaping related illnesses in the U.S. Many of those admitted to using THC products. 37 people have died. The DEA is working with its partners and other local organizations to continue to get the word out on the dangers of vaping. 1368
