LA MESA, Calif. (KGTV) -- A car burst into flames after a crash in La Mesa early Sunday morning. According to California Highway Patrol, the crash happened on SR-94 near the 125 before 3:30 a.m. CHP says the driver was speeding on SR-94 west when he tried merging onto the 125 on-ramp. The man then lost control and flipped several times before the car went up in flames. Witnesses stopped to help, but the man was able to get out of the vehicle on his own. The driver was able to escape the crash with only minor injuries. CHP says he is being checked for DUI. Traffic was shut down on the 125 on-ramp for a short time after the crash, but was reopened before 6 a.m. 676

The department confirms a person fired a gun near Albertsons on Broadway Avenue at around 11 p.m. Friday night. Her stress level climbed, along with the expenses of her three-bedroom home in Ocean Beach."Overwhelmed. So last year, she and her Corgi, Luke, embarked on their retirement dreams by selling her dream home of 42 years, moving into the Waterford Terrace retirement community in La Mesa and paying rent for a one-bedroom apartment home."The numbers made sense ... was emotionally attached to the house, but ready for a change," said Tillinghast.She's not alone in her thinking. According to a new study from Moneyrates.com, the San Diego area ranks 20th best in the country when it comes to seniors 'downsizing,' defined as selling their home to rent in a smaller place. According to the study, selling a median priced home will net you 32.67 years of rent in a two-bedroom apartment. That's despite sky-high rents.
