PARIS, July 7 (Xinhua) -- Top Chinese legislator Wu Bangguo and French Prime Minister Francois Fillon agreed on Wednesday that China and France should further consolidate bilateral ties and expand economic cooperation.During a meeting held at Fillon's office, Fillon said Wu's visit will strengthen the traditional friendship between Paris and Beijing and promote the Sino-French comprehensive strategic partnership to a new stage.Wu, who is conducting an eight-day official goodwill visit to France, said China and France share common interests in many areas. BEIJING, June 14 (Xinhua) -- China's State Flood Control and Drought Relief Headquarters (SFDH) has sent four working teams Monday to help flood control in provinces and regions pounded by heavy rains that triggered floods and mud slides.The flood control authority held a meeting Monday night with the Ministry of Water Resources agreeing to dispatch one more working team to central Hunan Province to help consolidate river banks along the upper reaches of the Xiangjiang River and ensure the safety of reservoirs.Three other teams were separately sent Monday afternoon to Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region and the eastern province of Fujian.From 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday, torrential rains pelted Guangxi, provinces of Guangdong, Fujian, Hunan and Jiangxi. Some regions even saw rainstorms, according to the SFDH.At least 24 people are missing after flash floods and landslides triggered by heavy rains engulfed two vehicles in Fujian Province Monday, according to a local official.The authority asked the Guangxi team to help with floods control and mud slides prevention work there. It ordered the team sent to Fujian to help with rescue work.The team for Xinjiang will help investigate the collapse of a reservoir dam in Xinjiang on Monday morning after heavy rains on the previous night.The local government had evacuated more than 200 families living downstream the reservoir. No casualties are reported so far.

XIANGNING, Shanxi, July 2 (Xinhua) -- Eight miners trapped for 35 hours in a flooded colliery in north China's Shanxi Province were saved early Friday, rescuers said. One miner is still missing.The eight survivors were taken to hospital for treatment. They are in stable conditions, said Li Youcai, deputy chief of Shengping Coal Mine Workers' Hospital in Taitou Town.They are expected to recover and be discharged from hospital in one week, Li said.The first four survivors were rescued and sent to hospital at around 2:30 a.m.; the other four miners were helped out of the pit at around 4:10 a.m., rescuers saidThe eight survivors were known to be alive and had been in close contact with the rescuers via phone after the Shengping Coal Mine in Jixian County where they worked was flooded with torrential rain water Wednesday.The accident happened at around 5 p.m. when 23 miners were performing repair work underground. Fourteen miners managed to escape.Rescuers were still trying to find out the whereabouts of the last missing miner, who lost contact with the others after the flood.The Shengping Coal Mine, owned by the Shanxi Coal Transportation and Sales Group Co., Ltd., has an annual output of 900,000 tonnes.

He said China will work together with Switzerland to push forward the Sino-Swiss ties.The Chinese and Swiss economies are highly complementary and have large potential in economic cooperation, said Wu. China expects to make joint efforts with Switzerland to strengthen cooperation in such areas as financial service, environmental protection, green economy and low-carbon technology while deepening cooperation in traditional fields, he said.Leuthard highly commended the progress in Sino-Swiss relations in recent years.She said Switzerland, which is one of the earliest western countries to establish diplomatic ties with China, gives great attention to a friendly cooperation with China and is willing to deepen the bilateral ties.
