(KGTV) -- A woman died early Sunday morning after her vehicle rolled over on a North County road before being struck by several other drivers suspected of driving under the influence.According to California Highway Patrol, the crash happened around 2:15 a.m. in the westbound lanes of SR-78 near Mar Vista Drive.CHP says the 33-year-old woman from Oceanside was driving her Toyota Carolla when she veered off the road onto a dirt shoulder. When the woman tried to regain control of the vehicle she hit the center divider wall, leaving the vehicle disabled.RELATED: Pregnant mom who fell asleep at the wheel crashes into Vista building, causing gas leakAfter the crash, a 54-year-old man from San Marcos struck the Corolla, ejecting the woman from her car. The 33-year-old driver of the Corolla died at the scene, CHP said, and the 54-year-old man was taken to the hospital with serious injuries. According to officers, after the second crash, a 38-year-old man also from San Marcos crashed into both of the vehicles previously involved in the crash. The driver and two passengers were taken to the hospital.The drivers of the vehicles involved in the second and third crashes are both suspected of driving under the influence.The District Attorney’s office also responded to the scene after being requested by officers to aid in the investigation.SR-78 west is currently closed. TRENTON, Fla. — Two deputies in Trenton, Florida were killed in the line of duty on Thursday.Around 3 p.m., two Gilchrist County Deputy Sheriffs were shot and killed in the Ace China restaurant in downtown Trenton, after a suspect walked up to the business and shot both deputies through the window.According to the Sheriff’s Office, when fellow deputies responded to the scene, they found the shooter deceased outside the business and Sgt. Noel Ramirez, 30, and Deputy Taylor Lindsay, 25, deceased inside."At this point, it remains an active criminal investigation with no apparent motive or indications as to why this tragedy occurred," the Gilchrist County Sheriff's Office wrote in a press release.Officials from the Levy County Sheriff’s Office, the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, and the State Attorney’s Office have all responded to the area to assist.Ace China restaurant is located on East Wade Street in Trenton, Florida, just off SR-26. UPDATE - The Escondido City Council voted 5-0 Wednesday to approve the moratorium on carwashes. Escondido has too many car washes. That's a conclusion the City Council may make on Wednesday, when it may place a moratorium on new car washes in the city.A city report says there are now 28 car washes in Escondido, with more in the planning stages. Instead, the report says the city prefers businesses that create higher paying jobs, more sales tax revenue, and are less intrusive on the surrounding environment. "Escondido has the most permissive policy towards car washes compared to other agencies in North County," the report says. "Currently, there are no special use regulations established for carwash facilities."The moratorium would give the city 45 days to come up with those rules.The issue is coming to light because Neil Capin wants to redevelop an old skating rink at 864 N. Broadway into an express wash. But that's right across the street from a 24-hour mostly manual carwash, with one automated wash. Capin said it should not matter what's across the street, noting that there are plenty of coffee shops and fast food restaurants near each other.Others say the city has too many car washes as it is."I'd rather drive another mile and not have them on every corner," said Ryan Carlson, who was washing his truck at the 24-hour facility on Broadway. Plus, not all car washes are the same. At Soapy Joe's on East Valley Avenue, V.P. Update, Friday 3:15 p.m.: Assemblyman Berman's office said the bill passed the Higher Education Committee and now goes to the Assembly Appropriations Committee.SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A recent study of California's community colleges found that 1 in 5 students had been homeless in the past year.To help these students, San Diego's community college district offers showers, priority class registration, food pantries, and help finding homeless services on and off campus.But a new State Assembly bill aims to aid homeless students further by requiring schools to let them sleep in their vehicles overnight in campus parking lots and structures.Assembly Bill 302, introduced earlier this year by Assemblyman Marc Berman (D-Palo Alto), specifies "that if a community college campus has parking facilities on campus, the governing board of the community college district (CCD) shall grant overnight access to those facilities to any homeless student for the purpose of parking the student’s vehicle overnight, provided the student: a) Is enrolled in coursework; b) Has paid enrollment fees, if not waived; and, c) Is in good standing with the CCD without requiring the student to enroll in additional courses."While the long-term solution is to create more affordable housing opportunities for students and families, the bill hopes to help a student’s ability to remain in school and be successful. “With the passage of AB 302, homeless students at community college campuses will be able to park overnight in a safe area. Providing this resource will enable our students to get some rest without having to constantly fear for their safety.”The proposal isn't without some opposition, getting mixed reviews from at least one school district.The Los Rios Community College District is calling the bill a “one size fits all” mandate that may not work for all of the state's campuses. Costs to implement the program are projected to be significant as it will require schools to increase overnight security staffing, custodial and utility costs, and the potential of threat of lawsuits for persons injured on campus parking lots during the evening hours.“Mandate cost claims are never fully reimbursed: Mandates are reimbursed only after costs are incurred and often times do not reflect the actual costs incurred in these activities," said officials with The Los Rios Community College District in Sacramento.Some students at San Diego Community College said the bill may exacerbate limited parking availability on campuses where parking is already difficult to find. "If it was during the day, or something like that, then it would be inconvenient for people trying to find parking or take the courses here," said Daniel Silva, a San Diego Community College student. "But overnight, it seems pretty harmless."San Diego Community College District officials are supportive of the idea, but would like to see some changes to the specifics.
