With Halloween coming up, there’s candy everywhere. It can be easy to go overboard on the sweets, but nutritionists say there are ways to indulge and keep your health in check. Scheler says she recommends Reese’s over Snickers. “I prefer them because they have simple ingredients,” said Scheler. “There’s really just sugar, a little bit of fat, chocolate and peanuts, where Snickers has a much longer label and corn syrup as well.”What about M&Ms vs. KitKats? “I would pick KitKats over M&Ms. I don’t like M&Ms because they have all that artificial color along with them and they do have a lot more concentrated sugar.”SweetTarts or Nerds?“So SweetTarts are my pick over Nerds because Nerds have a slightly larger serving size even though that box is really tiny, it still has more candy in it.”Twix or Milk Way?“Between Twix and Milk Way, I would actually say that’s a tie. They have similar amount of calories, similar amounts of added sugar.”If you plan on indulging in a few pieces of candy over the next few weeks, Scheler also suggests eating them at a certain time.“It’s best to eat sugar, especially processed sugar, with a meal, so that our blood glucose level doesn’t spike as high. SAN MARCOS, Calif (KGTV) - A North County military veteran and Cal State San Marcos student is spearheading an effort to expand a veterans remembrance wall in San Marcos. The wall stands at Helen Bougher Memorial Park, and it was funded and put up by a veterans group in 2009, but spots filled-up close after about two years. The open spaces left on the wall now are reserved for POWs and those KIA or MIA. "Unfortunately, I was the one that had to tell all the veterans and their families that there was no room left on the wall, which was unacceptable," said Heidi Rassat, a co-founder for the remembrance wall. Jason Beyer said he believes he was the last to purchase a tile before requests were capped. Now, the ex-Marine is on a mission to add more spaces to the wall. "I think about my co-workers who have passed away, and doing this project keeps their memory alive for me," Beyer said, adding veterans should have the opportunity to be remembered. "They should have this space for their loved ones to remember them, to remember their service, remember their sacrifice," he said. Beyer started a group called the San Marcos Veterans Memorial Initiative. Beyer is also a student at CSU San Marcos, and he has gotten art students involved in designing a way to free up or add spaces to the existing wall. They hope to give design concepts to the city and hopefully begin fundraising next year. "The City of San Marcos is proud to honor our veterans, and we look forward to considering potential proposals for enhancing the memorial," said City Manager Jack Griffin. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A man was injured in a machete attack in San Diego’s Talmadge neighborhood Thursday night, San Diego Police say. According to police, the incident happened just before 7 p.m. on the 4800 block of of El Cajon Boulevard.Police say the suspect walked up to the victim, who was sitting in his car, and attacked him with the machete. RELATED: Video shows machete attack in EscondidoPolice say the suspect shattered the vehicle’s windows with his machete. The victim got out of the car and ran off. But the suspect threw the weapon at the victim. The blade hit the victim in the back as the suspect then ran away.The victim received a a 3-inch cut on the ride side of his back, and was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Police are looking for the suspect. They say he was wearing a blue shirt and blue pants and ran northbound. If you have any information, you're asked to call the San Diego Police Department. 960
