DENVER — In the wake of the Black Lives Matter Movement and calls to end systemic racism, many have called on white people to call out discrimination and harassment. A Denver woman says she did just that when she recorded a white woman following and questioning a Black man in a neighborhood near Cranmer Park.Beth, who did not want to be identified by her last name, said she recorded the interaction on Sunday evening and shared it on social media. The video has been viewed thousands of times.The video shows a white woman trailing a Black man walking in a Denver-area neighborhood and asking him questions about a picture. The man asked the woman why she was interrogating him, and the woman later loses her temper."You f**khead, get out of here," the woman said.At one point, Beth interjected and told the woman to leave the man alone."He's not bothering you," she said.Beth said the woman was harassing the man, which is why she recorded the encounter."I just want people to know that it's happening," Beth said. "I don't want people to have an excuse for ignorance anymore. Racism is still real, it's still everywhere, and I'm a white person with a camera, so when I see it, I have to call it out."The woman in the video did not wish to give an interview on camera or be identified, but she told Scripps station KMGH in Denver that she saw the man take several pictures of her home, and was worried they could be used for a crime. When asked if she would have reacted differently if a white person were taking photos, the woman said race didn't play a role in her questioning. She said she just wanted to know why the man took pictures of her home.During the confrontation, the man began to walk away, but the woman continued to follow him. He finally told the woman that he did not want to talk with her and said, "Have a nice day."Neighborhood resident Matt Tedeschi has lived in the area most of his life and walks his dog in the area."(I'm) shocked that not everyone is as accepting as they should be, just for someone walking down the street and question them when they have no right to question them like that," Tedeschi said.The woman in the video claims she had every right to question why the man took pictures of her home. Beth argued that it's a beautiful neighborhood and that photos are common."He is in a public space, he took a picture; people do that all the time," Beth said. "It's a movement right now where we need to prove that Black people are harassed for no good reason. It's a time where we need to have evidence to back up what we are saying."Beth said she spoke with the man after the encounter, and he asked her if he was close to Trader Joe's. She asked if he was OK.She said he told her, "I'm OK. DENVER -- In everyone’s life, there are certain dates with special significance. For Anna Malic, December 17th is one of them.“It’s our 12 year anniversary,” Malic said.Tragically, this year will be different.“(The kids) realize that daddy’s not here anymore,” Malic said. “They really miss their dad.”For the children, it’s been a huge adjustment. To them, their dad was nothing short of heroic."He was very great,” said 11-year-old Ace. “He was selfless to everybody, even strangers. He would do anything for his family.”“He teached (sic) me how to do self-defense, karate, how to ride a bicycle,” said 9-year-old Anna.Allan Malic lived with passion, moving his family to the U.S. from the Philippines three years ago.He died a fighter, after battling an aggressive form of colon cancer, eventually passing away Thanksgiving Day.“It’s so hard for me, seeing him really deteriorating,” said his wife, Anna. “It was so quick.”Allan was diagnosed in October and died only one month later after undergoing chemotherapy.“It was devastating,” Anna said.A family broken, but still so strong, their story, first shared on Denver7 a few weeks ago, inspired so many in our community.“I’m forever grateful for everything,” Anna said.The community donated thousands of dollars to make Christmas special for the four Malic kids: Ace, 11, Anna, 9, Angelou, 7 and Angel, 5.Denver7 and Sam’s Club of Denver helped to organize a virtual visit with Santa and Mrs. Claus.“Do you know what Santa’s favorite cookie is?” Santa asked the children on Wednesday over a Zoom call.“Chocolate chip,” said Anna.We listened to the younger kids brim with excitement about their Christmas wishlists while the older kids broke our hearts.“I’m okay, Santa,” Ace said. “I don’t need anything more.”“I’d like at least a dream about him or with him,” said 9-year-old Anna.After the virtual Santa visit, the fine folks at Sam’s Club answered Santa’s call – delivering dozens of presents to the family’s west Denver home.“We just had a bunch of gifts for the kids and gifts for the mom, as well,” said Jamie Nissen, asset protection manager with Sam’s Club. “There’s just so much joy to be able to come out to a family like this and help; it’s just heartwarming for us here.”“It’s amazing,” said Allan’s wife, Anna. “I’m forever grateful for everything.”And at dusk, thanks to Denver Illuminations, another gift for the kids.“It’s beautiful,” said Ace of the lights Denver Illuminations put up on the Malic house.And finally, one more surprise.A trip to the Denver Zoo for Zoo Lights. The Denver Zoo presented the family with a special interactive experience, where the kids and a few of the zoo animals, like Jake – the Goffin’s Cockatoo, got to know each other a little.A moment where the kids could just be kids again. DETROIT — A 12-year-old girl takes a challenge and a dare that could have cost her life.It’s called the "fire challenge." Young people pour flammable liquids on their bodies and set themselves on fire.Brandi Owens says her 12-year-old daughter Timiyah Landers did the challenge with her friends last Friday.She ended up engulfed in flames. Brandi and her fiance extinguished the blaze from her baby girl and rushed her to the hospital.Timiyah is now at Children’s Hospital with second and third-degree burns over 49 percent of her body. Her mom says kids find these dangerously “outrageous” challenges on social media and Youtube. She is angry and has a message for those behind the sites that post these videos.“They need to delete this mess," Owens said fighting back tears. "It should be censored. That’s nothing that a kid should come across. I could have lost my baby, by the grace of God she’s alive. If I wasn’t home, I would have walked in to my baby dead."Owens says Timiyah knew better. So, she is urging parents to monitor their kids, their friends and their internet and social media platforms.Timiyah will likely be in the hospital for several months and will undergo several more surgeries. 1272

Delta Air Lines will not be opening up their middle seats on its planes anytime soon.On Thursday, the airline company updated its coronavirus safety policy and announced they would be closing off the middle seats through Jan. 6, which is considered a busy period for them because of the holiday season.For travel through Oct. 31, Delta said it would limit the number of customers on board all aircraft, limit the First Class cabin to half capacity, and block one aisle of seats on a plane without middle seats.USA Today reported that the company would cap capacity at 75% percent in the main cabin through Oct. 31. The company added that the Delta One cabin would be offered at full capacity effective Oct. 1. 717
