LOS ANGELES (CNS) - Denny's Inc. is being sued by a man who says he was eating at one of the dining chain's restaurants near downtown Los Angeles in 2018 when he was stabbed by a homeless man.Ralph Martinez maintains in his Los Angeles Superior Court lawsuit that Denny's management was aware of previous assaults at the location. He alleges negligence, premises liability, assault, battery and intentional infliction of emotional distress.A Denny's representative did not immediately reply to a request for comment on the complaint brought Friday. The plaintiff is seeking unspecified compensatory and punitive damages.According to his court papers, Martinez was having dinner alone at the Denny's in the 800 block of South Figueroa Street on June 24, 2018, when a homeless man entered the location and "immediately began making racial slurs at other customers and began harassing the other customers."The homeless man then approached Martinez and began hitting him before stabbing him several times with a knife, according to the lawsuit."At no point in time did defendant's staff intervene or even ask or escort the homeless man to leave," the suit says.Denny's did not have any security guards at the restaurant even though management knew of previous violent incidents there, the suit alleges. 1306

LOS ANGELES (CNS) - Mudslides, flooded freeways and dangerous driving conditions plagued the Southland Thursday thanks to a second straight day of rain, prompting road closures, mandatory evacuation orders in Orange County and fears that the situation could get much worse before the storm moves out. As of midday, no evacuation orders had been issued in the Malibu area, the scene of the recent Woolsey Fire that now has residents on the lookout for mud and debris flows. A mudslide during the morning commute inundated a stretch of Pacific Coast Highway near Leo Carrillo State Beach, forcing a full closure of the heavily traveled roadway clear north to Ventura County. Crews had the bulk of the mud cleared by midday, and the road was reopened. In Orange County, voluntary evacuation orders were issued Thursday morning for select neighborhoods near the Holy Fire, affecting the Trabuco Creek, Rose Canyon and Mystic Oaks/El Cariso areas. LOS ANGELES (CNS) - Four people were wounded, one fatally, when gunfire erupted Tuesday morning at a large party taking place at a mansion north of Beverly Hills where police had earlier responded to multiple calls of disturbing the peace.Firefighters and paramedics sent to the 13200 block of Mulholland Drive about 12:45 a.m. located three adults who had been wounded, and they were treated at the scene, then taken to a hospital, according to Nicholas Prange of the Los Angeles Fire Department. A fourth person was found nearby with an injury to his wrist, Prange said, adding the victim's injury was not caused by gunfire.One shooting victim was hospitalized in grave condition and the other two were hospitalized in critical condition, Prange said.A woman about 35 years of age died at a hospital, said Los Angeles Police Department Lt. Chris Ramirez. Information was not immediately available on her identity.Ramirez said the other two shooting victims found at the scene were males, and they were displaying stable vital signs Tuesday morning.A woman who also had been shot went to a hospital in a private vehicle, and was in stable condition, Ramirez said.Ramirez said the crime apparently was gang-related, and no arrests have been reported. Phillips said from the bench. ``This was a large amount of methamphetamine -- and the way it was packaged, it was clearly for sale.''According to evidence presented at trial, Los Angeles police officers pulled Renteria over on Feb. 3, 2018, in the Angelino Heights neighborhood of Los Angeles after they witnessed him erratically and evasively driving a white Chevrolet Tahoe.Renteria consented to a search of the SUV and law enforcement found a black garbage bag on the floor behind the driver's seat. Inside the bag were 14 foil-wrapped, burrito-shaped packages containing 13.7 pounds of methamphetamine with a street value ranging from ,000 to ,000.A subsequent search revealed a fully loaded Smith & Wesson .38 Special handgun and more than 0 in cash, evidence showed.
