WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Better Business Bureau is warning the public about multiple contact tracing scams.The BBB says scammers are taking advantage of people’s fears about contracting the coronavirus as public health officials roll out contact tracing programs.These programs are developed to help slow the spread of COVID-19 by informing people who may have come in contact with someone who has tested positive.According to the BBB, the scam takes two forms – through messages or via phone call.The unsolicited messages can come via texts, emails or social media messengers. They claim that you’ve come in contact with someone with COVID-19, you’re instructed to self-isolate and link is provided to learn more details. Don’t click the link. It may contain malware that downloads to your device.The phone version of the scam involves a robocall claiming to be part of “contact and tracing efforts,” according to the BBB. Again, the call informs you that you’ve been exposed to someone who tested positive for COVID-19. After electing to speak to a representative, the “contact tracer” asks you to verify personal information. While contact tracers do normally reach out by phone, be sure to hang up if the caller doesn’t meet certain guidelines.The BBB says this how to tell a real contact tracer from a scammer:· Contact tracers will ask you to confirm your identity, but not for financial information. Tracers will ask you to confirm your name, address, and date of birth. In most cases, they will already have this information on file. They will also ask about your current health, medical history, and recent travels. They will not ask for any government ID numbers or bank account details.· Contact tracers will identify themselves: The call should start with the tracer providing their name and identifying themself as calling from the department of health or another official team.· Contact tracing is normally done by phone call. Be extra wary of social media messages or texts.· A real contact tracer will never reveal the identity of the person who tested positive. If they provide a person’s name, you know it’s a scam.· Think the link may be real? Double check the URL. Scammers often buy official-looking URLs to use in their cons. Be careful that the link is really what it pretends to be. If the message alleges to come from the local government, make sure the URL ends in .gov (for the United States) or .ca (for Canada). All three of them are Democrats because President-elect Joe Biden won his home state.“To be one of three that represents the Delaware voter that calls him their own is just huge,” Blunt-Carter said. “And then you look at the fact that the Vice president-elect is a woman of color - that is doubly amazing for me.”While she was selected by Delaware Democratic party officials to be an elector, in other states, you have to run for the privilege.“In our long history as a country, there have been very few people that have actually served in this role,” said Jonathan Fletcher, who is an elector from North Carolina.Fletcher ran to be an elector at the Republican State Convention, when it was held in North Carolina. He cast his vote for President Donald Trump, who carried the state.“It's kind of a lifelong dream,” he said. “I joke that it's a short lifelong dream – I'm only 28 – but it is a lifelong dream of mine.”The Electoral College and the popular vote don’t always match up. It’s happened five times in the country’s history, including twice in the 21st century, in 2000 and 2016. Some say that’s unfair and are calling for the Electoral College to be abolished.So, how do these electors feel about it?“It gives states like North Carolina, who are kind of middle of the pack in the electoral shuffle, it gives us a lot more equal standing with the rest of the country,” Fletcher said.Blunt-Carter said she sees why people would have some issues with the Electoral College.“I understand that people think that it is far past the time where we start to look at doing this differently,” she said. “But that's not the job of the elector. It's one way they've united in one voice to try to make a difference.  But some students are using art, and billboards, to send a message of their own.           For Yoki Ogbai, the overalls she's painting are more than a school project"Our colors are red and white," Ogbai said. "So a lot of wings a lot of bows glitter all types of crazy.The overalls are her latest work of art."Art for me is like a big sense of release," Ogbai said.Born in East Africa, she used art as expression when she moved to the U.S and a way for people to see her for who she is."A lot of times people don't really try to understand and don't really try to get to know a person before creating their onw ways," Ogbai said.  "Their own idea of who you are."So when she heard about a contest called the "Healing As One" campaign, she figured it would be an opportunity to inspire thousands to take a look at things in a different way."Cause he's kind of taking a picture and was like through the lens," Ogbai said.That idea grew into a billboard on a busy intersection that reads, "See Me, I Am Denver.""To be seen is to be acknowledged for everything you are and not for what you're expected to be," Ogbai says.Ogbai's billboard is just one of several in the Healing As One initiative. The topics are timely. One reads education not deportation. And others, encourage people to have courage and hope.Albany Reynolds designed the hope billboard."For me it's amazing because I've always been someone who wanted to speak out about issues like that," Reynolds said.  "And just bring attention to that."She placed the word over a picture she took of her classmate Kelly."It's giving us leeway to have artistic freedom and to put our ideas out there," Reynolds said. WASHINGTON, D.C. — Federal officials say the key component to getting the COVID-19 vaccine distributed across the country will lie in the hands of states, with help from major pharmacy chains, like CVS and Walgreens.“We want to replicate what the experience you have with the flu vaccine — convenient to you, a tried-and-true system that we do hundreds of millions of vaccines through every year,” said U.S. Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar. “That's the backbone of the approach we're taking.”Yet, if flu vaccine rates are any indication, that backbone may not suffice.Dr. Eric Schneider is with The Commonwealth Fund, an independent organization that studies health policy. They recently delved into previous vaccination rates to see how it might unfold for COVID-19.“Our health care system does well at developing new technologies like these vaccines, which are really quite amazing, scientifically speaking,” Dr. Schneider said. “But we don't do as well at making sure those technologies are distributed to the people who need them most. And we're seeing that in the prior vaccination experience, and I’m worried we will see that with COVID-19.”What did they find?A mere 51% of Americans got the flu vaccine last year and only 38% got the H1N1 swine flu vaccine 10 years ago, which had a similar vaccine development timetable and pressure to COVID-19.Those low vaccination rates matter because in order for the COVID-19 vaccine to create herd immunity in the U.S., between 70 and 90% of all Americans will need to get vaccinated.“The concept of herd immunity really is developed out of vaccination programs because the question is ‘What proportion of the population needs to be vaccinated to prevent the circulation of a virus in the population?’” Dr. Schneider said.Just getting that shot could vary depending on where you live, as the federal government is leaving that up to each state.“That's going to be up to the nation's governors as they prioritize within their states,” HHS Secretary Azar said.However, Dr. Schneider said that in order for the states to pull it off, they are going to need federal help.“States are in incredible difficulty right now with their budgets and they need federal support,” he said. “Congress is considering a federal rescue package.
