CARLSBAD, Calif. (KGTV) - After hundreds of signs and fences along the trails at the Carlsbad Ecological Reserve are ripped from the ground, Fish and Wildlife is now setting up a specialized enforcement team. Secret cameras set up around the 500 acre reserve caught dozens of bikers ripping up signs, cutting fence wire and vandalizing property.Fish and Wildlife representative Peter Tira told 10News this is nothing new."We're not dealing with recreational mountain bikers, we're dealing with folks who disregard the law and believe the law doesn't apply to them," said Tira.Starting Saturday, April 6, Fish and Wildlife enforcement officers will hand out citations to all bikers who are caught riding the trails. Each citation comes with a 0 fine. "We've installed about 500 signs on this property almost all of which have been taken down or vandalized. On each of the signs it says 'No Bicycles'," said Tira. However, many mountain bikers who showed up to the trails Wednesday told 10News this is a popular spot for many in the Carlsbad area. Ivan Sekanovich comes to ride these trails at least once a week and is disappointed that Fish and Wildlife are letting the actions of a small group of bikers ruin it for the rest of them."For the most part, people know where they're supposed to hike and the bikers know where to bike," Sekanovich said. 1358

Chad Daybell, the husband of a woman whose children have been missing since September, appeared in court on Wednesday after two sets of human remains were found on his property.During Wednesday's court appearance, prosecutor Rob Wood said the remains were those of 7-year-old Joshua "JJ" Vallow and 17-year-old Tylee Ryan, both of whom have been missing since September.Kay Woodcock, JJ's grandmother, also confirmed to East Idaho News that one set of the remains are those of her grandson's.Police have not yet publicly confirmed the identity of the remains.Daybell faces two counts of evidence destruction, alteration or concealment. His bail was set at million. Should Daybell make bail, he will be required to stay in certain parts of Idaho and will wear an ankle monitor. He also cannot have contact with the families of the victims. Daybell was arrested Tuesday shortly after police served a search warrant on his home in Idaho. Two criminal complaints allege Daybell willfully concealed or aided and abetted in the willful concealment of human remains, "knowing that said human remains were about to be produced, used and/or discovered as evidence in a felony proceeding, inquiry and/or investigation authorized by law, with the intent to prevent it from being so produced, used and/or discovered."Daybell is married to Lori Vallow, the mother of JJ and Tylee. She was arrested in Hawaii in connection with her children's disappearance on Feb. 20 and was extradited back to Idaho. She remained jailed despite several attempts to lower her bond.JJ and Tylee went missing in September, shortly after Daybell and Vallow married. Daybell's former wife, Tammy, died of what was believed to be natural causes shortly before Daybell and Vallow married. Vallow's former husband also died under suspicious circumstances in 2019.This story was originally published by KIVI in Bosie, Idaho. 1897

CARLSBAD (CNS) - A 47-year-old man suffered severe injuries when he lost control of his speeding car and struck a tree on a Carlsbad street, police said Tuesday.Dispatchers received a report of a solo vehicle crash shortly before 6:10 p.m. Monday in the 7100 block of Corintia Street, off Alga Road, Carlsbad police Lt. Christie Calderwood said.Officers responded and found the man -- a Carlsbad resident -- unconscious inside a Mercedes-Benz CLS 55 sedan, Calderwood said.A preliminary investigation found that the victim was speeding when he struck a curb, lost control of the sedan and crashed into the tree, the lieutenant said.Paramedics took the injured motorist to the hospital for treatment of "severe injuries," Calderwood said. An update on the man's condition was not immediately available and it was not immediately known if drugs or alcohol were factors in the crash.Anyone with information about the crash was asked to contact Cpl. CARMEL, Ind. -- A 22-year-old man stole a popular English bulldog from a family's yard last year, leading to a social media campaign to try and find him, police say.Reid Albrecht, 22, is accused of stealing a bulldog, named Gus, from a yard in the 3000 block of Hazel Foster Drive. The theft happened in October 2017. During the Carmel Police Department's investigation of Gus' disappearance, multiple people said they remembered seeing Albrecht with a bulldog that matched the description. Albrecht had been telling people he adopted the bulldog from the Humane Society, but neither the Indianapolis nor the Hamilton County Humane Society had a record of him adopting an animal.Albrecht was known to live with his father at a house about 1,000 feet from the victim's house. At the time of his arrest, Albrecht was in jail serving a 180-day sentence for possession of a controlled substance and possession of marijuana. The Facebook page "Gus is Missing" has nearly 1,900 likes, with many people sharing and commenting that they hope Gus will be returned to his home.
