Twitter users can now limit who can reply to their tweets.According to a blog post by Twitter's Director of Product Management Suzanne Xie, the new settings were rolled out on Tuesday."Since your Tweet = your space, we've been testing new settings to give people more control over the conversations they start," Xie said in the post. "Sometimes, people are more comfortable talking about what's happening when they can choose who can reply. We've seen people use these settings to have conversations that weren't really possible before. Starting today, everyone will be able to use these settings, so unwanted replies don't get in the way of meaningful conversations."Users can reply with the following three options: everyone, only people the user follows, or only people you, the user, mention. Before, anyone could respond.Xie explained that tweets with limited settings would be labeled, and the reply icon will be grayed out for people who can't reply. Those who can't answer will still be able to view, retweet, retweet with a comment, share, and like the tweets."These settings help some people feel safer and could lead to more meaningful conversations, while still allowing people to see different points of view," Xie said.According to the social media giant, they've received positive feedback. People said they felt more comfortable tweeting and more protected from spam and abuse, and 60% of people who used the new feature during the test didn't Mute or Block anyone, Twitter added. 1504

Two US Marine aircraft crashed off the coast of Japan, the US Marine Corps announced Wednesday in a statement. It is believed five individuals were on board a KC-130 and two individuals were in a F/A-18, two US defense officials told CNN. At least one Marine had been rescued just before 6 p.m. ET, according to a Marine Corps spokesman."Search and rescue operations continue for US Marine Corps aircraft that were involved in a mishap off of the coast of Japan around 2:00 am Dec. 6," local time, a statement by the US Marine Corps reads. The planes "had launched from Marine Corps Air Station Iwakuni and were conducting regularly scheduled training when the mishap occurred," according to the statement. The crashes happened approximately 200 miles off the coast of Iwakuni, Japan, a US Marine Corps official tells CNN.The primary mission of a KC-130 is airborne refueling. It is not known at this time if the aircraft was refueling at the time of the crash."The circumstances of the mishap are currently under investigation," the statement said.."Japanese search and rescue aircraft immediately responded to aid in recovery," according to the statement.Wednesday's incident comes on the same day that the Marines released a report on a crash in July 2017, also involving a KC-130 variant that killed 15 Marines and one sailor. That KC-130T crash took place in Leflore County, Mississippi, and the "investigation determined that the aircraft's propeller did not receive proper depot-level maintenance during its last overhaul ... in September 2011, which missed corrosion that may have contributed to the propeller blade" coming loose during the flight and going into the aircraft's fuselage, according to a Marine Corps statement on the investigation. 1759

UPDATE: Tuesday's meeting was canceled due to an illness.SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - On Tuesday night, the City of San Diego's Parks and Recreation Department will present two options for redeveloping the De Anza area to the Mission Bay Park Committee. The meeting is open to the public and begins at 6 p.m. at Mission Bay High School. The two plans were released to the public over the summer. Both feature improvements to sports fields, the Mission Bay Golf Course, green space, walking paths, playgrounds and beaches. Both also have new wildlife habitat areas included, although they vary on how many acres (27 or 38). A more detailed look at the plans can be found here. But wildlife preservations groups like the San Diego Audubon Society and ReWild Mission Bay say they don't go far enough to preserve the habitat or protect wildlife. They're calling for up to 200 acres of land set aside. They say it can also provide a buffer against sea level rises from global warming. They've put forth three other alternative plans that have limited amenities for people, but focus on open habitat space."I don't think being able to use an area for cycling, walking or jogging and conservation of the bay are mutually exclusive," says Linda Conser, who walks along the bay every week. "I think they can exist together.""A lot of my friends use this area," says Chris Garry, who launches his fishing boat from the dock at De Anza Cove. "I'm interested to see what it's going to be like." 1490

Two studies recently published in the CDC’s journal indicate COVID-19 can spread on airplanes. In one study, researchers found a woman showing symptoms on a 10-hour flight potentially spread COVID-19 to at least 15 other people on the plane.A 27-year-old businesswoman who lived in London and was from Vietnam started having symptoms, fever and cough, while still in London in late February. She and her sister had visited Italy and other locations in London before the woman flew to Vietnam. Her sister later tested positive for COVID-19.The 27-year-old was one of 21 people sitting in business class on the March 1 flight from London to Hanoi, Vietnam. The woman became more sick once she landed, and isolated in her home. A few days later, she tested positive for COVID-19, as did three people in her house and a friend back in London she had visited before the flight.Researchers quickly tracked down the majority of people who were on the woman’s flight to isolate and trace potential cases. In all, researchers identified 14 additional passengers and one crew member who had COVID-19. The study states 12 of the passengers who tested positive had sat in business class with the 27-year-old woman, and 11 of them were sitting within two seats of her.“First, thermal imaging and self-declaration of symptoms have clear limitations, as demonstrated by case 1 (the woman), who boarded the flight with symptoms and did not declare them before or after the flight. Second, long flights not only can lead to importation of COVID-19 cases but also can provide conditions for superspreader events,” researchers concluded. The second study looked at four people aboard a flight from Boston to Hong Kong on March 9 who all tested positive for COVID-19 after landing in Hong Kong and showing symptoms. Two passengers, a couple, flew in business class. They showed symptoms the day they landed and sought healthcare. The other two cases were flight attendants who served the business class and first class sections of the plane. Both had come into close contact with the couple, and they both developed symptoms a few days after landing.Researchers were able to sequence their viruses and discovered all four had the same strain of COVID-19.Scientists conclude the couple contracted COVID-19 while they were in the U.S. and transmitted it to the flight attendants on the plane.“Passengers and cabin crew do not generally go through the same check-in process at airports before boarding. Although we cannot completely rule out the possibility that (the flight attendants) were infected before boarding, the unique virus sequence and 100% identity across the whole virus genome from the 4 patients makes this scenario highly unlikely,” researchers stated.Although there were no other positive COVID-19 cases reported from this flight, not all passengers were tested or tracked like in the first study.“Our results demonstrate that SARS-CoV-2 can be transmitted on airplanes. To prevent transmission of the virus during travel, infection control measures must continue,” they noted. Both of these studies looked at cases on flights before face coverings were mandatory on flights. They were published in Emerging Infectious Diseases, a journal of the Center for Disease Control and Prevention. 3286
