(KGTV) -- The search for a woman who owns a flower shop in Rancho Santa Fe has ended Monday night after authorities say Penelope Elizabeth Bax was found alive.Bax’s sister said she was spotted in Hirz Bay, a campground off of Lake Shasta, which has 6,200 miles of rivers and streams.Her sister says she thinks Bax ran out of gas in her Mercedes RV and her cell phone was dead.Bax was found dehydrated but stable and was airlifted to a local hospital. Her dog Walter is also being treated.The search for the 63-year-old began on March 31 after deputies with the Shasta County Sheriff’s Office learned that Bax was traveling to a family member’s home in Washington but hadn’t arrived yet.According to deputies, Bax left Vista on March 26. She was expected to arrive in Washington on March 29 but never showed up. 845

SPRING VALLEY (CNS) - A juvenile driving a stolen minivan led deputies on a 15-minute East County road chase Tuesday before bailing out of the still- rolling vehicle near Sweetwater Reservoir and making a failed attempt to escape on foot.The chase began shortly after 8:30 a.m., when a deputy spotted the occupied van in the area of Bancroft Drive and Troy Street in Spring Valley and determined that it had been reported missing by the operators of a group home in the area on Monday, according to sheriff's officials.When the deputy tried to pull him over, the boy behind the wheel of the stolen vehicle drove off and refused to yield, Sgt. Scott Roller said. The youth sped to the south and east over various streets before jumping out of the moving vehicle in a school zone on La Presa Avenue and fleeing on foot.The suddenly driverless minivan continued traveling down the street briefly, then crashed to a halt against a jersey wall. Shamika Burrage survived a near-fatal car accident two years ago, but not without losing something pretty important: her left ear.Now, thanks to a novel procedure performed at an Army medical center in Texas, Burrage is getting that ear back in a most unusual way.Plastic surgeons harvested cartilage from Burrage's ribs to create a new ear and then grew it under the skin of her forearm. Then the doctors at William Beaumont Army Medical Center in El Paso successfully transplanted the ear from her arm to her head.The technique -- a first time in the Army -- is called prelaminated forearm free flap, said Lt. Owen Johnson III, chief of plastic and reconstructive surgery at William Beaumont Army Medical Center.Some of the big advantages of it is that it reduced the chance of more scarring around Burrage's ear.
