KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Last week, a Kansas City couple’s special day took a horrifying turn when the groom-to-be accidentally dropped the ring he was in the process of proposing with into the water beneath the picturesque bridge he and his bride-to-be were on.Seth Dixon and Ruth Salas’ friends got into the pond at Loose Park to find the lost gem, but their search was unsuccessful.Giving up hope of finding the wedding ring, the couple searched for a way to replace it. A friend started a GoFundMe page after video of the incident went viral, and the couple was eventually invited onto 'Jimmy Kimmel Live' for a do-over, complete with a custom-built set made to look like Loose Park and a brand new ring.Little did they know, hundreds of miles away, back home in Kansas City, a complete stranger had taken it upon himself to find their precious lost treasure.“I wanted to make sure they got it back before somebody else found it and had the opportunity to not give it back,” Michael Long said.Long lives in Springfield, Missouri, and made the 170-mile trek to Loose Park three different times to make sure Dixon and Salas got their ring back.He said he was scrolling through Facebook one day when he came across the viral video. Knowing he had the ability to find the ring, he went to search the water.Long dove for the first time on Thursday. He searched using only a metal detector and no scuba gear, bobbing up for air and back down to the pond floor for an hour and a half before calling it quits for the night. But he didn't give up.Long came back on Saturday, and this time searched for three hours until he finally pulled the diamond from the pond.Long searched the pond at Loose Park to make sure Dixon and Salas got their ring back.Long said he contacted a friend of the couple about 20 minutes after his discovery and made arrangements to get the ring back to Dixon and Salas as soon as possible.The couple finally got their ring back on Tuesday, thanks to Long.He said he felt compelled to help in the situation even though he didn’t know those involved personally because he wanted everyone to know that there are still good people out in the world.He also said he wanted there to be peace of mind that the couple got their ring back rather than someone stealing it or it remaining lost.Long’s other finds from his dives? KENOSHA — In his first time speaking publicly since his arrest, Kyle Rittenhouse told the Washington Post that he "would have died that night" if he hadn't brought a gun to a Kenosha protest where law enforcement officials say he shot and killed two men.Unrest broke out in Kenosha following the Aug. 23 police shooting of Jacob Blake. Police said Rittenhouse, 17, is charged with the homicides of two men during the night of Aug. 25. One big question that many are now asking: If you've already had the virus, should you get the vaccine when it becomes available? "Certainly right now, it's looking like they are going to recommend people that have had COVID to go ahead and get the vaccine when it's available to them, based either on their job or on their other health conditions," said Dr. Sarah Boyd, infectious diseases physician at Saint Luke's Health System.Boyd said it is important for everyone to get the vaccine, even those who already have had COVID-19."We know the majority of people that are at about 90 days, but there are some that probably longer," Boyd said. "Over the next few months, there will be information I am sure coming out about the natural course of immunity and if at some point you are at risk to get reinfection."Amanda Finley tested positive for the coronavirus twice and wants to get the vaccine as soon as she can."For me, I haven't had adverse reactions before, but the only way to know if it is going to affect long-haulers is if we try it," Finley said. "I just don't feel right saying, 'oh, somebody goes try it for me.' I will gladly do it. I will be first in line."She runs a Facebook group for COVID long-haulers.Some of the members in the group are excited about the vaccine, while others are nervous about it. But Finley said a big reason why she will get the virus is a simple one."Because I definitely do not want to get this again," Finley said. "It affects every system in the body. It's not just a respiratory disease, that is just how we found it. It affects your cardiovascular system, it affects your brain, it affects your muscles. KEARNY, N.J. — An uninvited guest made its way into several New Jersey suburbs, creating quite a stir inside normally quiet areas.Police believe a 300-pound bear is roaming around communities and was most recently seen in North Arlington.It was likely the same bear that was spotted in Kearny. It's not clear how a black bear ended up in the middle of densely populated areas like Kearny — and Harrison, beforehand — but some New Jersey residents needed a second to get their bearings after spotting the furry animal."I haven't seen any here, this is the first time. Surprised me. Especially close to my house," said Ruben Martinez.He barely noticed that it had climbed up a tree in his own backyard around 1 p.m. Monday. That was until he heard some commotion outside."When I went outside, that's when I found out. I saw police in my driveway, that's how I found out. Plus, I see a lot of people outside," Martinez said.Harrison police said the bear was first spotted on Saturday at the local Walmart and by Red Bull Arena. Officers snapped a picture with their bare hands and posted it on social media, warning people to be on alert."We did get a call from the town of Kearny that there was a bear was in the neighborhood and police were looking for it,” said Herbert Ginbel, a local resident.Police asked residents to bear with them as they tried to capture the animal. They've requested an animal control unit and notified the New Jersey Division of Fish and Wildlife."I just hope everything will work out all right, and as a deacon I pray that the bear will be ok, and it can be returned to the habitat that I belongs,” Ginbel said.It's estimated the bear weighs 300 pounds.
