(AP) — Officials in Nevada are identifying a 55-year-old man found dead under a vehicle they think may have collapsed on him due to earthquakes last week in nearby Southern California.Nye County Sheriff Sharon Wehrly (WER'-lee) said Thursday that investigators might never know for sure what caused Troy Ray to become pinned beneath his Jeep outside his trailer home in rural Pahrump.Sgt. Adam Tippetts says in an internet post that Ray was last seen alive at a nearby gas station July 3.A day later, a magnitude 6.4 earthquake struck near Ridgecrest, California, followed by a larger 7.1 temblor on July 5.Ridgecrest is about 95 miles (153 kilometers) west of Pahrump.Tippetts says Ray's death was ruled an accident resulting from asphyxia and blunt trauma. 780

PHOENIX — Three people, including two children, have died after being stabbed near 19th and Glendale avenues Sunday morning.Phoenix police say they are conducting a homicide investigation after they found a 7-year old boy, 9-year-old girl and an 18-year-old woman who had been stabbed to death inside of an apartment. Authorities say a 28-year-old man was also stabbed and transported to the hospital in extremely critical condition.Officials say they received a call of unknown trouble, possibly a stabbing at about 9 a.m.A person came into the apartment soon after the stabbing and found the four victims and called officers to the scene.The two children are believed to be siblings and the 18-year-old woman and 28-year-old man are believed to be family members.Police say there are currently no outstanding suspects and the investigation is ongoing.Anyone with information is encouraged to call police at 602-262-6141 or to remain anonymous, call Silent Witness at 480-WITNESS/480-TESTIGO (Spanish). 1011

Parents of a Wisconsin teen demand change after their son took his own life. Quinten Espinoza and his family just moved to Glendale, Wisconsin from Ohio four months ago. He was an 8th grader at Glen Hills Middle School. The parents said they knew he was dealing with some bullying but never thought it would go as far as it did."He always said, I told the teachers, it's not a big deal. I'll go up. No, I'm okay, I got it taken care of,” said Espinoza’s mother Lara Furko. “Never showed any other signs of anything. So I never thought to pursue it any further. And now I'm at where I'm at today.”Furko saved some of the messages he received. About three weeks ago a female classmate wrote, “I hate you so much, I hope you die.” Espinoza responded, “I’m a human being just like you and if I do you will feel guilty. #StopBullying.”On Wednesday the principal of Glen Hills invited parents to a meeting to share concerns about Espinoza’s death. Espinoza’s family is questioning the school's response to his death. School leaders said it’s an ongoing investigation by police and the school district, and that there were no reports of bullying.  1183

Charlie Dent announced Tuesday he is resigning in the "coming weeks," a decision that came after he first said he'd be retiring at the end of his term in Congress.The moderate Republican tweeted the decision came after discussions with his family and "careful reflection.""I am especially proud of the work I have done to give voice to the sensible center in our country that is often overlooked or ignored," he said in the statement. "It is my intention to aggressively advocate for responsible governance and pragmatic solutions in the coming years."In a statement Tuesday, Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Wolf, a Democrat, thanked Dent for his service."Charlie Dent is a voice of reason and civility that breaks through the chaos and partisanship of Washington and he will be missed," he said.The governor's office also announced that there will be a special election to fill Dent's seat, but no set date yet.The Pennsylvania Supreme Court's February order creating new congressional districts in the commonwealth beginning next term included language that, if there were to be a special congressional election before the new term next January, it would be held under the 2011 congressional district map.Already, 43 House Republicans have announced this cycle they are retiring, running for another office or resigning outright, including Dent and House Speaker Paul Ryan.
