SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Thousands of people gathered in Balboa Park to support those living with Alzheimer’s disease.The annual “Walk for Alz” is one of the biggest Alzheimer’s awareness events in San Diego. Ken Darling has been participating in the event for the last 10 years.“My mom has passed but, I keep coming back to say thank you to an organization that helps other people going through this disease," Darling said.The Walk for Alz is put on by Alzheimer’s San Diego. The organization offers free resources to caregivers and family members of people in need.“It’s a family disease,” says Eugenia Welch, President of Alzheimer’s San Diego. “It effects so much more than just the person who is diagnosed because the whole family has to adjust their way of life to make sure that person is safe.”About 84,000 people in San Diego County are currently living with Alzheimer’s or another Dementia. That number is up from the 65,000 reported cases last year. Alzheimer’s San Diego says the goal for the event is to raise at least 0,000. All the money goes to resources in San Diego County.  1112

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — The remains of a 79-year-old man found in a fire pit on Fiesta Island have been identified.The remains were identified as Elias Rene Rodriguez, of San Diego, according to the San Diego County Medical Examiner. Rodriguez's remains were discovered by a passerby on Oct. 29 at about 10:30 a.m. on the east side of Fiesta Island. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - This weekend job seekers are invited to the San Diego Cannabis and Hemp Job Fair & Business Mixer.Organizer Joshua Caruso, with the San Diego Cannabis Farmers Market, says it’s an important milestone one year after recreational marijuana was legalized in California. “We felt that the community really needed to know the brands and dispensaries and hemp companies that are local,” said Caruso. He says it’s the first job fair held in San Diego since recreational marijuana was legalized in the state.Over 30 companies will be at the event, including Golden State Greens located in Point Loma. “We are working professionals, we’re moms and dads and sisters and brothers and aunts and uncles, we’re just trying to shed a positive light on the industry,” said Golden State Greens Manager, Joshua Wilson. Wilson says Golden State Greens is a leader when it comes to complying with new state regulations and that they’re working to combat the negative stigma some still have about the industry.Companies are looking for employees of all skill levels, from managers to drivers. “There’s going to be people in suits, there’s going to be multi-million dollar companies, this is a real industry, this is a very thriving industry,” said Wilson. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The upcoming San Diego Blood Bank blood drive brings to light stories of lives saved by the generosity of others.4-year-old Kamila is one of those people whose life is forever changed by donations.Kamila was diagnosed with beta thalassemia major when she was a newborn. Following the diagnosis, Kamila received her first blood transfusion at the Rady Children’s Hospital when she was two months old.Her mother, Maria Saradpon, described what it felt like to find out her daughter has a blood disorder. “I cried because it’s scary.
