DENVER -- A Colorado man’s vacation in Hawaii took a terrible turn this week when he was attacked by a shark.Dylan McWilliams, 20, was bitten by a tiger shark while surfing in Hawaii.McWilliams received stitches and will be okay, but he could be named the most unluckiest – or luckiest –guy in Colorado.“Yeah, this isn’t my first time being bitten,” McWilliams told Denver7 over a FaceTime call. “Last summer I was attacked by a bear in Boulder. It dragged me out of my tent by my head.”Scripps Denver affiliate KMGH-TV spoke with McWilliams last summer following the attack. He received several scars on his head but ended up okay.“I fought off the bear as much as I could until it dropped me and let me go,” McWilliams said.Less than a year later, and McWilliams gets bitten by a Tiger Shark in Hawaii.“I felt something hit my leg, and I looked down and there was a lot of blood and I saw the shark underneath me,” McWilliams said. “I started swimming as fast as I could to shore.”McWilliams said the shark looked to be between six and eight feet long.But the bear and shark attacks haven't been the only two times he's had a dangerous encounter with wildlife.“When I was sixteen, I was in Utah and I was walking outside and thought I kicked a cactus and it ended up being a rattlesnake,” McWilliams said. “It bit me too.”Denver7 reporter Tomas Hoppough jokingly told McWilliams through the FaceTime call that he is a Colorado version of Steve Irwin – the Crocodile Hunter.“That’s funny you say that because Steve Irwin has been my hero since I was a kid,” McWilliams said. “I always wanted to be like him.”McWilliams will need to stay out of the water during his vacation as his wound heals, but said he will be okay.“I don’t know if I’m unlucky, or really lucky,” McWilliams said. “But my dad said I need to buy a lottery ticket or something.” 1875

DEL MAR (CNS) - Two horses that died when they collided while training at the Del Mar Racetrack last summer were processed into animal by-products instead of being taken to a UC Davis Animal Health and Safety Laboratory per protocol, it was reported Friday.The two horses killed in the July 18 head-on collision -- Charge A Bunch and Carson Valley -- were taken to a rendering plant near the El Sobrante Landfill in Corona, where they were processed into products such as fertilizer and bone meal before their remains were sent to the landfill, the Los Angeles Times reported."I got a call first thing in the morning after the accident saying the horses never arrived," Dr. Rick Arthur, equine medical director for the California Horse Racing Board, told the newspaper.Del Mar track officials got a call from the California Horse Racing Board because, by statute, it is the track's responsibility to get the bodies to the testing laboratory, according to The Times, which reported that an investigation found that Stiles Animal Removal was at fault for the mistake."The owner of Stiles admitted that he forgot to inform the new driver of this requirement (to take the remains to the state lab)," according to a CHRB investigators report.Mike Martin, spokesman for the CHRB, told the newspaper he contacted Mac McBride, Del Mar's media director, one day after the mistake was discovered and they spoke the day after that."Mac said that Del Mar would make an announcement as soon as a CHRB investigation was complete," Marten told the newspaper.Del Mar has made no public statement since the investigation concluded, but a statement by Chief Operating Officer Josh Rubinstein was given to The Times last week."As soon as the CHRB made us aware of the error by the contractor responsible for transport to the necropsy facility, Del Mar responded immediately and appropriately, including terminating that vendor," Rubinstein said. (KGTV) — A three-year-old horse died after it broke down during training and had to be euthanized at the Del Mar Fairgrounds Saturday.The horse, named Koa, broke down during training, according to the Del Mar Thoroughbred Club (DMTC) confirmed. The extent of the horse's injury was unclear.Koa is the ninth horse to die while racing or training at Del Mar this year. Bri Bri, an unraced three-year-old filly, was euthanized in August after suffering a serious injury during training.In November, two horses — three-year-olds Ghost Street and Prayer Warrior — died after serious injuries in separate races. DELAWARE COUNTY, Ind. -- A substitute bus driver in Lebanon, Indiana was fired last week after the district said she pulled over on the side of the interstate and allowed two strangers onto the bus to scold a child. The incident happened last Wednesday, on I-65 after a student was reportedly making lewd actions toward drivers. A driver then flagged down the bus and the bus driver allowed two people on to scold the student. The two people then got off the bus and back to their vehicles. The Superintendent of Lebanon Community Schools, Dr. Robert Taylor, calls the situation "unacceptable."The bus driver, who has not been named, was immediately fired.Dr. Taylor said she violated every protocol and procedure they have in place. "It's a matter of picking up the radio and instantaneously contacting somebody that could provide help," said Dr. Taylor. "That's exactly what should have been done."The district is working with local police to conduct a full investigation into the situation.   1043

David Blaine, known for extreme stunts and illusions, has reached new heights. Literally.Blaine grabbed onto a bunch of helium balloons this week and floated up into the air above the Arizona desert. The stunt, called “Ascension,” was live streamed on YouTube Wednesday.He begins the video talking to his daughter among giant helium balloons in an airport hangar.“This is what I’ve been telling you about, that I’ve been dreaming about since I was your age,” Blaine tells her. He later says he wanted to do a stunt that “inspires” his daughter, and doesn’t scare her like past stunts may have.He was strapped to about 50 balloons with the goal of reaching about 18,000 feet into the air. The hour-long flight reached a height of 24,900 feet. At about two hours 45 minutes into the video, Blaine releases the balloons and begins skydiving toward earth, opening his parachute a few minutes later.“Wow! That was awesome, wow!” Blaine exclaims when he lands. The video shows his daughter get on the headset and talk to Blaine after he landed.“You did it! I love you,” she says.“That was actually beautiful, from top to bottom,” Blaine says as he boards a helicopter in the desert to return to where his team was stationed at a nearby airport. 1246
