WASHINGTON (AP) — Joe Biden says he has begun receiving intelligence briefings and warns that Russia, China and other adversaries are attempting to undermine the upcoming U.S. election in November. The presumptive Democratic presidential nominee wasn’t specific and offered no evidence while addressing a virtual fundraiser Friday. However, in the process, he confirmed receiving classified briefings after suggesting as recently as late last month that he wasn’t getting them.Biden received intelligence briefings while vice president but told reporters he wasn’t getting them as of June 30.Classified briefings are traditionally provided to major-party nominees once they win the primary, but Biden won’t formally become the nominee until the party’s convention next month. 781
WASHINGTON (AP) — Federal officials are outlining new rules that will let operators fly small drones over people and at night. Most drones will need to be equipped with remote identification that can be tracked by law enforcement officials. The final rules announced Monday by the Federal Aviation Administration could boost the commercial use of drones, which has been slowed by regulatory hurdles. UPS, Amazon.com, and Google parent Alphabet are among many companies exploring the potential for making deliveries to consumers with drones.“These final rules carefully address safety, security and privacy concerns while advancing opportunities for innovation and utilization of drone technology,” said U.S. Secretary of Transportation Elaine L. Chao. The FAA issued the following three operational requirements:1. Operate a standard Remote ID drone that broadcasts identification and location information of the drone and control station;2. Operate a drone with a Remote ID broadcast module (may be a separate device attached to the drone), which broadcasts identification, location, and take-off information; or3. Operate a drone without Remote ID but at specific FAA-recognized identification areas.According to the FAA, the Remote ID will help mitigate risks associated with expanded drone operations, such as flights over people and at night, and both rules support technological and operational innovation and advancements. 1436

WASHINGTON (AP) — Attorney General William Barr, one of President Donald Trump's staunchest allies, is resigning amid lingering tension with the president over the president's baseless claims of election fraud and the investigation into President-elect Joe Biden's son. Barr went to the White House on Monday, where Trump said he submitted his letter of resignation. "Just had a very nice meeting with Attorney General Bill Barr at the White House," President Trump tweeted on Monday. "Our relationship has been a very good one, he has done an outstanding job! As per the letter, Bill will be leaving just before Christmas to spend the holidays with his family." 670

She has publicly said that her son has autism. She told officers he may have had what she believed was a BB or pellet gun. She also told them her son had previously threatened to shoot one of her coworkers."I don't believe it's a real gun," she told officers."Unfortunately, we have to treat them all as if they are [real guns]," one officer responded, to which she replied, "Right, I know."At one point, the boy ran from officers, one of whom fired at least 10 shots as heard in the bodycam footage after ordering him to show his hands and get on the ground. The shooting occurred just after 10 p.m. near the area of 500 South and Navajo Street. It was unclear from the footage if he brandished a weapon. 1138
WASHINGTON — Now that President Donald Trump has signed a government spending bill that includes 0 billion for COVID-19 relief, members of the House of Representatives voted on a standalone measure Monday to increase the amount Americans get in direct payments as part of that package. The bill passed with wide Democratic support. The relief package, which took months to negotiate, includes up to 0 in direct payments to individuals. After being in limbo for several days, the president finally signed the bill Sunday night, after the House and Senate passed it Tuesday. The president initially called the bill, which includes the federal government spending bill that funds the government for the next fiscal year in addition to COVID-19 relief measures, a “disgrace” in a video posted to Twitter last week. He called on Congress to increase the amount of money Americans received in direct payments. In response to his signature on the bill, Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi released a statement welcoming the news as it helps millions of Americans “struggling to stay afloat.”“Now, the President must immediately call on Congressional Republicans to end their obstruction and to join him and Democrats in support of our stand-alone legislation to increase direct payment checks to ,000,” the statement reads. “Every Republican vote against this bill is a vote to deny the financial hardship that families face and to deny the American people the relief they need.”Before going on a break for Christmas, the House quickly tried to pass an increase in direct payments in a process called unanimous consent. However, a Republican representative raised a competing measure, which meant the effort failed. At the time, Pelosi issued a statement that the House will be back in session on Monday, "where we will hold a recorded vote on our stand-alone bill to increase economic impact payments to ,000."As for when Americans could start seeing those checks, no matter what size they are, Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin said last week it would take about a week to process them once the details are finalized. 2124
