SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A body washed ashore in Ocean Beach early Monday morning a few hours after a man was seen diving off the Ocean Beach Pier.At about 1 a.m., someone called 911 to report seeing a man jumping off the OB Pier into the ocean. A witness said the man was seen on his back being pulled out to sea.When authorities arrived, they found the man's belongings on the pier but could not locate him in the water. Lifeguards and Coast Guard personnel launched a search, but the man was nowhere to be found.Shortly after 4 a.m., authorities responded to the discovery of a body on the beach nearby. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A 25-year-old man has been taken into custody after his 53-year-old mother was found dead Monday evening in the College West neighborhood. Officers were called to the 4800 block of Collwood Boulevard around 4:40 p.m. Monday night after receiving reports of a deceased person inside a home. According to San Diego Police, family members tried to contact the 53-year-old woman who lived inside, but had not been able to contact her for several days.When officers entered the home, they found the woman dead.“Information provided by family members led to the 25 year-old son being located at an area hospital where he was receiving treatment for injuries he sustained to his hands,” police said.The man has been taken into custody and will be transported to headquarters for processing as a possible suspect, police said. 846

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - This fall could bring dangerous wildfire conditions to San Diego and surrounding areas of the county, according to a report scheduled to be delivered Monday to the City Council's Public Safety and Livable Neighborhoods Committee.In his presentation, San Diego Fire-Rescue Department Chief Brian Fennessy notes that winter rains promoted more grass growth than usual throughout the city. "If the fires occurring in the north and central part of the state (are) any indicator of what is to come for San Diego, we could be in for an extremely active and potentially dangerous three months."Through Sept. 10, Cal Fire has responded to more than 5,100 fires throughout the state this year, which have scorched over 229,000 acres. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A broken fire hydrant sent thousands of gallons of water gushing into the air Friday, damaging home on the 5100 block of Mariner Drive, near Otay Mesa.  The home received flood damage on the first floor of the house, as well as the yard. The cars in the driveway were drenched as well.  Water was gushing from the broken hydrant for nearly 20 minutes, according to the homeowner, Gary Birtwell.  "It was coming in through the backdoor," Birtwell said. "We had about 6 inches of water in the back yard that basically filled up above the door. And it was coming in through a closed window on the side of the house. We had water that came in through the ventilation." A neighbor's security video captured what appears to be a white SUV pulling into the curb then hitting the hydrant. Water begins gushing, and the SUV takes off.  Police officers took the neighbor's security video from the scene and were looking for more footage of the incident. 1015
