Several retailers across the U.S. have announced that they will be closed on Thanksgiving Day. Special counsel Robert Mueller's investigators met with members of President Donald Trump's legal team on the same day that the FBI was launching a raid targeting the President's personal attorney, according to sources familiar with the matter. The timing of the Monday raid made for an awkward meeting, which had been previously scheduled as part of preparations for a possible interview between the President and Mueller's team.Jay Sekulow, who leads the President's legal team, did not comment on the timing of the meeting."We do not discuss conversations we have had or have not had with the special counsel," he said. The raid on Cohen's home, hotel room and office brings the Mueller investigation deep inside the President's inner circle -- Cohen has worked with Trump for years and is treated as a confidant and a member of his family.A source close to the President said there have been ongoing negotiations between Mueller's team and the President's legal team for a potential interview, but the raid on the President's personal attorney has upended those discussions. CNN reported last week that members of the legal team have been informally prepping the President for a possible interview, though no decision on the matter has been made. The President's anger over the raid as well as a new assessment of what the implications of the raid could be for Cohen's most prominent client, Trump, are factors that the President's legal team has to take into account. 1477

Social media has changed how campaigns reach voters before an election. It has also changed how news is spread.Websites known as “pink slime” organizations use computer-generated algorithms to produce content. These sites, unlike traditional news outlets which are funded by advertisements or subscriptions and maintain an editorial protocol, are generally funded for the purpose of promoting an agenda. The Tow Center for Digital Journalism at Columbia University found in late 2019 a total of 450 websites it described as “pink slime” organizations. Of these, 189 were designed in a way to appear to be local news outlets. The Tow Center said in 2020, that number has grown considerably to over 1,000 such sites. While many local newspapers have folded in recent years, the opportunity for news stories driven by algorithms to get traction with a community has grown.A New York Times investigation spotlighted groups such as Metric Media, Locality Labs, Newsinator, Franklin Archer and Interactive Content Services. These organizations run hundreds of sites that appear to look like traditional news outlets.“It is becoming an increasingly common campaign strategy for PACs and single-interest lobbyists to fund websites that borrow credibility from news design to help advance particular agendas,” according to a report by the Tow Center. “The proliferation of politically-funded local news sites across the political spectrum raises questions about how these entities represent themselves to the public, and how they are categorized by search engines and social platforms.”Adding to the concern of these outlets, according to the Tow Center, is that 90% of these stories are “algorithmically generated using publicly available data sets or by repurposing stories from legitimate sources.”The remaining 10% of these stories?“Many of the stories are directed by political groups and corporate P.R. firms to promote a Republican candidate or a company, or to smear their rivals,” according to a New York Times report. Not only are these sites growing while a number of legitimate news outlets are struggling to stay open, but they are increasing during an era of misinformation.Just last week, the FBI and intelligence community officials warned Americans of growing foreign influence in US elections. These foreign actors, according to leaders from the FBI and national intelligence agencies, say misinformation is being weaponized in hopes of influencing the election. And with misinformation spreading on the internet, trust in the news media as a whole has dropped significantly in recent years. According to Gallup polling, the number of Americans who say they trust the news had dropped from 72% in 1976, to a low of 32% in 2016. More recent polling places the proportion of Americans who trust the media at 40%.But one area of the media that Americans say they trust is their local news. In 2019, 67% of Americans said they can trust their local paper, which is up from 61% in 1998. Gallup also found last year that 74% say they trust their local TV news, and 65% say they trust their local radio news, both up slightly from 1998.While most Americans trust their local news, according to Penny Abernathy, nearly 1,800 local newspapers have closed since 2004. Worse, Abernathy told Poynter that these closures have created “news deserts” in small communities.“And when you lose a small daily or a weekly, you lose the journalist who was gonna show up at your school board meeting, your planning board meeting, your county commissioner meeting,” Abernathy told Poynter. With local newspapers getting the ax across the US, these pink slime sites have been able to take advantage of the credibility of local outlets, even though their reporters are not local to the areas they serve, and that’s assuming the story was not written by a computer. The Tow Center published a list of these so-called pink slime sites. Something you can't see with the naked eye could be the keeping an eye on you in your most private moments.Illegally hidden cameras are getting harder to detect each day.At her request, we have concealed the identity of a Central Florida woman who found a hidden camera installed in a fan sitting on a table in her home."Well right now it's making me very paranoid because I feel like there could be more devices," said the woman.  She is sharing her story to warn others. There are already plenty of other warnings out there in our state as well.In October 2017, a couple found a hidden camera in a smoke detector in their Airbnb room in Longboat Key.In March 2016, a mother said she found a hidden camera in a West Kendall restaurant bathroom. The demand for hidden cameras, and help finding them, keep private investigator Jody Stacy busy at his Delray Beach store."You got to think if they're finding one device, how many did they miss? Again, it's getting cheaper, smaller and more effective," said Stacy.Stacy went on to say, "Pretty much anything can hold a hidden camera. A stuffed animal, a clock, something as small as a phone charger. Finding the camera can be a challenge."The woman in Central Florida felt like someone she knew, knew too much about her private life."I feel like he can hear everything I'm talking about and everything I say," said the woman. She hired a private investigator, who found the camera in a fan.For about one hundred bucks, you can use a handheld device to spot hidden camera lenses and radio frequencies.  Stacy said, "Everything has to have a crystal or a lens in it like the smoke detectors or stuff like that so if you went through it... it would reflect and you'd see like a little red light and it would tell you there's a camera in it." 1814

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell was confronted at a restaurant in Kentucky on Friday, according to CNN affiliate WLKY.According to WLKY, McConnell, a Republican representing Kentucky, was dining at Havana Rumba in Louisville, Kentucky, with his wife, Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao, when a group of men approached the couple."Why don't you get out of here? Why don't you leave the entire country?" one of the men yelled at McConnell, WLKY reported. 469
