HAMILTON, Ohio — A man pocketed a puppy Saturday while perusing an Ohio pet store, packing the struggling little animal into the single oversized pocket of his hoodie and using his hands to keep it inside as he left.Propitiously for the pilfered pet and Preferred Puppies, the place from which it was plundered, he did so in full view of a security camera.Two days after the proprietor posted the recording to YouTube, the puppy’s new parent -- apparently unaware it had been stolen -- contacted the store and returned it. According to Preferred Puppies, it seems healthy but will need a checkup before it can go back on display. In the meantime, the puppy thief will face a problem he probably should have predicted: The police. "We filed a report with the police and provided video footage from several different cameras," the business wrote on Youtube. GREENCASTLE, Ind. — Several dozen students interrupted an event featuring actress Jenna Fischer at DePauw University Tuesday to protests recent racial incidents on and near campus.Many of them held signs with things claiming they are "afraid for their lives" after recent events. Fischer, star of the sicoms "The Office" and "Splitting Up Together" was at the university to discuss her new book, "The Actor's Life: A Survivor's Guide."University Spokesman Ken Owen, who was moderating the lecture with Fischer, said about 15 minutes into the program a group of students got up and began interrupting the event whistling, shouting and saying they were afraid for their safety on campus because of the recent racial incidents. Last week, a hateful message was found written in a bathroom at the university. The message, which read " All ******* must die -KKK," was written on a bathroom wall of the Inn at DePauw, a public building on campus. Another anti-Semitic and homophobic messages were also found. The video above was captured during the Tuesday evening protests by Shannon Samson. Another event being investigated by the university involves a hateful slur written in rocks at the DePauw nature park, which is owned by the university. Owen said there was a meeting with the school president Tuesday over the events and that have happened up until that point and they expect more meetings in the future. DePauw University issued the following statement on social media after the event.  1573

GRAND BLANC, Mich. - A 17-year-old is in trouble with Michigan State Police and, most likely, his parents after being clocked doing 138 miles an hour on I-75 in near Grand Blanc.The incident happened at around 8:45 p.m. on November 23.Troopers clocked the 2012 Chevy as it was in the left lane of Northbound I-75. Troopers say the driver tried to "duck off" onto E Holly Road but was caught by the trooper.According to MSP, the driver said he was "traveling so fast and passing other cars and sucking in and out of lanes" because he was late for his 9:30 curfew.MSP says the trooper "gave the kid a break" on a reckless driving charged, but did give him a ticket for going 138 mph in a 70 mph zone and "the SMH award."His ticket carries an unknown fine and four points. 777

Grocery chain Kroger is reportedly considering banning all Visa card transactions at its locations throughout the United States due to a dispute on swipe fees, Bloomberg reported. Kroger is reportedly taking the first step toward stopping Visa transactions. At its Foods Co. Supermarkets, which are located in California, the chain will stop accepting Visa transactions next month, Bloomberg reported. “It’s pretty clear we need to move down this path, and if we have to expand that beyond Foods Co., we’re prepared to take that step,” Kroger spokesperson Chris Hjelm told Bloomberg. "When the amount retailers pay in card fees gets out of alignment, as we believe it is now, we don’t believe we have a choice but to use whatever mechanism possible to get it back in alignment.”While Kroger itself has grocery stores in 21 states, Kroger owns a number of regional chains throughout the country — Baker’s, City Market, Dillons, Food 4 Less, Fred Meyer, Fry’s, Gerbes, King Soopers, Jay C, Food Store, Owens Market, Pay-Less Super Markets, QFC, Ralphs and Smith’s Food and DrugVisa issued a response to Kroger's announcement. "Visa is disappointed at Kroger’s decision to stop accepting Visa credit cards at its Foods Co. stores. GREELEY, Colo. — At the conclusion of his statement, Frank Rzucek, the father of Shanann Watts, said he has a message for Chris Watts, who sat silently behind him in an orange jumpsuit in court.Without turning, he read his last sentence: “Shanann says she’s super excited for justice today.”Frank Rzucek was the first person to read a statement at Monday’s sentencing hearing for Watts, who pleaded guilty on Nov. 6 to killing his pregnant wife Shanann, and their two daughters, Bella, 4, and Celeste, 3, in August in the small town of Frederick, Colorado.“I trusted you to take care of them, not kill them,” Frank Rzucek said in the court. “And they also trusted you.”He said after their murders, Watts carried them out of the house “like trash,” buried Shannan in a shallow grave and put the girls in used containers of crude oil, noting that he had watched video surveillance.“You heartless monster,” he said. “You have to live with this vision every day of your life and I hope you see it every time you close your eyes at night.”Shanann’s brother, Frank Rzucek, Jr., echoed those sentiments in his statement, saying he prays Watts never finds a moment of peace or sleeps well at night. Weld County District Attorney Michael J. Rourke read the brother's statement while he stood next to the podium.“You went from being my brother, my sister’s protector, one of those most loved people in my family, to someone I will spend the rest of my life trying to understand,” the statement read.He said he wrote the statement full of hate and betrayal. They trusted him to keep them safe.As Rourke read the statements to the court, Frank Rzucek, Jr. looked back at Watts, who barely raised his eyes from the table in front of him throughout the sentencing.  “You took away my family from this earth, but you can never take them from my heart,” the brother's statement read. “You took away my privilege of being an uncle to the most precious little girls I have ever known.”Frank Rzucek, Jr. explained that his family did not want to pursue the death penalty because they believe nobody has the right to take the life of another.“My family and I can finally grieve after today," his statement read. "If anything, we will come out of this stronger than we were before, and we will continue to pray for your family.”The final member of the Rzucek family to speak was Sandra Rzucek, Shanann’s mother. She started her statements by thanking those who had helped her family, ranging from the town of Frederick to the FBI. She also thanked everybody who had sent the family cards, prayers and kind messages, which came in from all over the world, she said.She wore a purple ribbon at the podium, which has become a sign to honor the memory Shannan and her children in Frederick.Shanann loved Watts and their children with all of her heart, she said. Her family was her world.“We loved you like a son,” she said at the podium. “We trusted you. Your faithful wife trusted you. Your children adored you. And they also trusted you.”They will stay protected by God and his angels, she said, and her family will continue loving them.“Not only did you take a family of four — your family of four,” she said. “You took your own life.”Watts was sentenced to five life sentences with no possibility of parole on Monday.  3496
