CHULA VISTA, Calif., (KGTV) -- No justice served. That is what a Chula Vista father said after he found out that the boys and young men who publicly attacked his son in April already got out of jail. Punch after punch. Kick after kick. Cell phone video shows 16-year-old Paul Martin being beaten while lying helplessly in the fetal position. "Our family changed since that day. It's not the same," Paul's father, Margarito Martin, told 10News. RELATED: Otay Ranch family upset over violent videoThey have not been the same since April 11, 2019. Margarito said his son was at the Cotixan Mexican Restaurant in Otay Ranch after school, defending a friend who had been bullied on social media. That is when seven people robbed and violently assaulted him. Police later arrested five minors and two adults. Investigators found that some of them were wearing cleats for maximum damage. Martin said miraculously, Paul only sustained scrapes, bruises, and a sprained wrist. "They knew what they were doing," Martin said. "They're not kids. They were 18, 19, and one of them was already 20."After a lengthy trial, the attackers were convicted of felony assault. But they were only sentenced to time served. 19-year-olds Aldrin Uy of Paradise Hills and Kent Pasunting of North Bay Terraces received years probation. All seven are now back on the street. The judge cited "restorative justice" for their lighter sentences. "If you injure anybody or assault anybody, [they should] be sentenced more heavily," Martin said. That is why the family is now fighting to change the law regarding juvenile and young adult offenders. They have started a change.org petition to lower the age for adult charges when dealing with serious felonies. "I know they are minors, and they need another chance," Martin said. "We've all been there. Bad stuff when we were kids. Graffiti and that stuff, you're only affecting property. (KGTV) - A Chula Vista woman says an attempted purse snatching at her front door led to her being dragged into the street.Around 8:40 p.m. Tuesday on Kelso Court, surveillance video shows a vehicle stopping in the middle of the cul-de-sac. A person appears to gets out on the passenger side and linger near the car.At the same time and feet away, Shaun McMahon was in her car, parked in her driveway. When she got out of the car, she was carrying a bag, food items and her purse."When I got to my front door, I noticed in my right peripheral vision, a person was there," said McMahon.Her cameras captured a still image of the moment. She says a lean, dark-haired man, possibly in his 20s, grabbed at her purse."Held down on my purse, but it swung around because he pulled so hard," said McMahon.Everything else she was holding went flying, but she held fast to her purse."Dragging me towards my grass ... I hung on for dear life. I was yelling 'Let go!'" said McMahon. "It was instinct. I wasn't letting go. This was somebody violating me, stealing from me. I had to fight back."McMahon says she was dragged some 75 feet - across her lawn and into the street - as she continued to scream. With the purse coming apart, the man finally let go, and jumped in the parked car, which then took off.McMahon was left with a swollen ankle, a bruised back and a lot of questions. Among them: why was she targeted in an apparent drive-by purse snatching in front of her home? Police say this appears to be an isolated incident.McMahon plans to buy a new camera system and pepper spray."I never thought I should be concerned walking into my home. (KGTV) -- A Chula Vista little league is on a quest to become Little League World Champions.The Park View all stars are preparing for the Western Regional Tournament, the last hurdle before the World Series.The team is also moving forward without their manager who was suspended for violating a rule requiring every player to have at least one bat per game.He told 10News it was an unintentional mistake, but his appeal was still denied. The team, however, is in capable hands with their coach, Jorge Camarillo, who led the team to the 2016 World Series."They're resilient, energetic and positive, and they play for one another,” Camarillo said. The global pandemic won’t stop them from tracking Santa Claus’ progress as he delivers gifts around the globe on Christmas Eve.The North American Aerospace Defense Command has announced that NORAD will track Santa on Dec. 24, just as it has done for 65 years. But there will be some changes: Not every child will be able to get through to a volunteer at NORAD’s call center to check on Santa’s whereabouts, as they have in years before.Normally, 150-160 volunteers crowd into a conference room at Peterson Air Force Base in Colorado Springs, taking two-hour shifts to answer the phones as eager children call to see if Santa and his sleigh have reached their rooftops. All together, 1,500 people over 20 hours have participated in the call center in the past, fielding more than 130,000 phone calls, beginning at 6 a.m. Eastern time on Christmas Eve.This year, due to safety restrictions forced by the COVID-19 pandemic, the number of volunteers has been drastically cut to what NORAD expects will be fewer than 10 people per shift.“We understand this is a time-honored tradition, and we know undoubtedly there is going to be some disappointment,” said NORAD spokesman Preston Schlachter. “But we’re trying to keep it safe for everyone involved.”So, some callers may be able to once again get through to a member of the military or other volunteer when they dial the NORAD Tracks Santa toll-free number, 1-877-Hi-NORAD. But others will get a recorded update on Santa’s current location.Schlachter said NORAD will largely be limiting volunteers to people who already work there and their immediate families. But that could be expanded a bit as the time gets closer. He said that this year volunteers will answer health questions and have their temperature checked when they arrive, and a cleaning crew will wipe down surfaces throughout the day.
