"We are aware of the unfortunate incident that took place at one of our restaurants last night. We, like you, were upset and disappointed and took immediate action. The employee has been terminated. What occurred does not reflect the values of our brand, our franchise, or the love and admiration we have demonstrated consistently for our friends in law enforcement and first responders. We have reached out to offer our sincerest apology." 448
"Mr. Latson made a grave error in judgment in the verbiage he wrote... In addition to being offensive, the principal's statement is not supported by either the School District Administration or the School Board." 220

Willie Mays once said that no one could hit a baseball further than Willie McCovey. That is high praise from the former MLB Home Run King. On Wednesday, McCovey died peacefully at his home at the age of 80, the San Francisco Giants announced. McCovey was the 11th player in MLB history to join the 500 Home Run Club, and the second member of the Giants to join the club following Mays. McCovey hit 521 home runs in his 21-year career, which ended in 1980. In 1986, McCovey was inducted to the Baseball Hall of Fame after being selected on his first ballot. "Baseball has lost a giant, in every sense of the word, with Willie McCovey's passing this afternoon," Hall of Fame President Jeff Idelson said in a statement. "There wasn't a batter more feared by opposing pitchers than Willie Mac, who hit 521 mammoth home runs during a dominating 22-year career that included 19 seasons in a Giants uniform." 945
President Donald Trump said on Thursday his maligned attorney general is safe in his job at least until November.Trump made the comment in an interview with Bloomberg News."I just would love to have him do a great job," Bloomberg quoted Trump as saying in the Oval Office.Trump has raged against Jeff Sessions since his decision to recuse himself from Russia-related matters last year. Sessions was the first Republican senator to endorse Trump as a presidential contender.Speculation that Trump may soon dismiss Sessions has increased in recent days as the two men trade snipes.Meanwhile, Republican senators have shown new openness to a new attorney general. But they have pressured Trump to wait until after the midterm elections in November. Bloomberg said Trump declined to comment when asked if he would keep Sessions past then.He told the news service he considers special counsel Robert Mueller's investigation to be an "illegal."Asked if he would comply with a subpoena from Mueller, Trump said, "I'll see what happens" and added: "I view it differently. I view it as an illegal investigation."He told Bloomberg "great scholars" have said "there never should have been a special counsel."Mueller's investigation was ordered by Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein in May 2017 and the scope of the investigation was laid out by Rosenstein in a classified memo. Justice Department lawyers have previously said Rosenstein is aware of the scope and activities of Mueller's investigation. 1523
(AP) -- College is a major milestone for many U.S. teens, the first time they've been on their own. But this fall, amid pandemic restrictions, many are struggling. They face social distancing requirements, mask mandates and daily temperature checks, as well as quarantine and isolation. Not to mention online learning glitches and anxiety over whether to join partiers or hole up in dorm rooms or at home to stay safe. This is freshman year 2020 for many students. Many colleges are offering an array of services to help students cope. But says one California student, "I’ve completely forgotten about having a normal freshman year.” 641
