SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- SeaWorld San Diego plans to close Thursday as the county prepares for a storm. According to a news release, the theme park made the decision due to heavy rain and strong winds that could sweep through San Diego. The park plans to re-open Friday, November 30. Showers are expected to develop Wednesday night, becoming widespread and heavier by Thursday. Rainfall totals are expected to average between .50” to 1.50” for the coast and valleys with 2” to 4” in the mountains and .50” in the deserts. Strong winds will also accompany the storm. A wind advisory is in effect for the coast and valleys Thursday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and for the mountains and deserts from 6 a.m. Thursday through 6 a.m. Friday. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Several birds were rescued from a San Diego apartment after a downstairs unit caught fire.According to crews, the fire started around 10:45 a.m. Sunday at an apartment on the 1700 block of Oro Vista Road.Shortly after noticing smoke, residents at the complex grabbed every fire extinguisher they could get their hands on in an effort to extinguish the flames and keep the blaze from spreading to the second floor.Firefighters say no one was home at the time of the fire and several birds were rescued. 529

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego State University warned students Monday about a man who exposed himself to a person at a campus parking structure. The incident happened just after noon Sunday at Parking 1, 5300 College Blvd., SDSU officials said. “The suspect began touching himself inappropriately and then fled northbound toward Alvarado Road,” according to a news release. University officials said the man is in his mid-20s, and Hispanic with dark hair and a tan complexion. He is around 5’7” to 5’8” with an average build. Officials say he was clean-shaven and wearing a black baseball cap, dark or gray shirt, and black pants. Anyone with information was asked to call University Police at 619-594-1991. 714

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Starting Wednesday, cruise ships will return to the San Diego Embarcadero — but they will not be picking up any customers for months to come. Experts say the longer the vessels stay, the harder it is for the cruise industry to bounce back.The Holland America Koningsdam returned to the Port of San Diego Wednesday morning. It is one of five cruise ships scheduled to dock at the Embarcadero for fuel and supplies. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Sirhan Sirhan, who was convicted for assassinating Robert F. Kennedy in 1968, was stabbed Friday in a South San Diego County prison. A statement from the state Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation said the stabbing occurred Friday afternoon at the Richard J. Donovan Correctional Facility near San Diego."Officers responded quickly, and found an inmate with stab wound injuries. He was transported to an outside hospital for medical care, and is currently in stable condition," the statement said.The statement did not name Sirhan, but TMZ first reported that Sirhan was stabbed and taken to a hospital outside the prison for care. The Associated Press, citing a government source, confirmed that Sirhan was the victim.Cal Fire confirmed to 10News a person stabbed Friday afternoon at the prison was taken to Scripps Mercy Hospital."The suspect in the attack has been identified, and has placed in the prison’s Administrative Segregation Unit, pending an investigation," a California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation official said in a statement.Sirhan was convicted in the shooting death of Kennedy during a presidential campaign rally in Los Angeles. He was immediately tackled by witnesses. Sirhan was convicted of first-degree murder in 1969 and initially sentenced to death. The sentenced was commuted to life in prison in 1972 when the California Supreme Court found that the death penalty constituted cruel and unusual punishment under the state constitution, according to the CDCR.Sirhan has had 15 parole hearings and subsequent denials since he was incarcerated.
