SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A Good Samaritan discovered a cat and her 11 kittens inside a downtown dumpster San Diego recently.The San Diego Humane Society said it's now caring for the cat and her kittens, which is a rare size for any litter.“A healthy litter this size is incredibly uncommon and certainly not something we see every day in the nursery,” said Jackie Noble, SDHS kitten nursery manager.RELATED: East County woman loses hundreds of dollars in pet scamThe Good Samaritan told SDHS it didn't appear the cat was dumped there and may have been using the dumpster as a safe place to hide and care for her kittens.SDHS said the animals are all in good health. The animals will remain there until the kittens are ready to be put up for adoption and the mother is spayed."As cute as the kittens are, a litter this large highlights the importance of spaying and neutering. According to the National Weather Service, a cold trough will drop to the southwest Monday, triggering showers along and west of the mountains. The freezing level will fall quickly late in the day, resulting in the possibility of icy conditions on roadways. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A 40-year-old man was assaulted and nearly kidnapped during a violent home invasion overnight in South Park.The victim and his girlfriend were asleep in their home when three armed suspects forced their way into the home at about 2:30 a.m., according to San Diego Police. The group demanded the victim's car keys, but he refused to give them the keys. The group struggled with the victim and assaulted him, before taking several electronics and attempting to kidnap the man, police say.The victim continued to resist and was able to escape the group and call police. The suspects then fled the scene.Police described the suspects as three Hispanic males, all wearing dark clothing, gloves, and partially covering their head and faces. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – A 79-year-old man was found dead about six miles from the Lake Morena Campground, one day after his family reported him missing.According to San Diego County sheriff’s officials, the man was reported missing on Tuesday, Sept. 1, after his family did not hear from him during the previous four days.Officials said the man was described as an avid hiker and was staying at the campground.On Wednesday, sheriff’s Search & Rescue teams spotted a body matching the missing hiker’s description about six miles from the campground.Officials said the county Medical Examiner’s Office will perform an autopsy to positively identify the body and determine the cause of death. 696
