(KGTV) - A new technology is being hailed as a "game changer" by some experts as it takes aims at those achy, tiresome commutes.  Cadillac's Super Cruise, the only hands-free semi-autonomous driving feature on the highways, is now on roads in Southern California.Once on the highway, the feature is activated with the push of a button on the steering wheel.  The feature allows the driver to go feet- and hands-free as long as you stay in one lane. "If someone slows down in front of me, it will slow down our speed," said Drew Doran.While other driver-assistance systems use cameras to center a car, Doran says General Motors has extensive laser mapping of US highways that leads to better accuracy."It actually knows what is ahead of the vehicle," said Doran.  On a one-hour-long drive, it tracked every curve and every time, it stayed in the center of the lane. The driver is still expected to be on standby.  A camera on the steering wheel watches for distractions.  If the driver is doing something like reading and blocking that camera, it will warn the driver.When we blocked the camera, a green light flashed - the first of several alerts - before Super Cruise disengaged.  Doran says he recently went on a trip to Los Angeles with his wife.  He says he used Super Cruise for about 80 percent of a drive that left him feeling relaxed.    "Not the usual back pain. (KGTV) - A North County school district said it was hacked last week, forcing them to shut down parts of their network during registration week.The San Dieguito Union High School District sent out an email to parents on Thursday alerting them to “an attempted malware attack” on August 9.While they called it “attempted,” Superintendent Robert Haley confirmed to 10News that district IT employees detected malware implanted in the district’s system. However, Haley assured parents that no data had been viewed or taken from their network.As of Thursday, the parent portal remained shut down, which is where parents were supposed to input information for the start of the school year.In the email to parents, Haley said the portal would remain unavailable through the weekend. ESCONDIDO (CNS) - The driver of a Ford Mustang was killed when he reportedly crashed into three separate vehicles at a high speed on Interstate 15 in Escondido this morning, an officer said.A 25-year-old man was behind the wheel of a 2007 Ford Mustang around 6:20 a.m., heading south on I-15 just before state Route 78 when he approached stopped traffic and sideswiped a 2018 Ford Edge in the No. 2 lane of the freeway, according to California Highway Patrol Officer Kevin Smale.After the first crash, the Mustang struck a Ford F-450 two-axle truck stopped in the No. 1 lane, then another Ford F-450 in the No. 2 lane.The Mustang driver, who wasn't wearing a seatbelt, suffered major injuries and was taken to Palomar Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead, Smale said.Drugs and alcohol were not suspected to be factors in the crash.Lanes of southbound I-15 were blocked in the area for about two hours after the crash while investigators and emergency personnel worked, Smale said.All lanes were re-opened shortly before 9 a.m. 1042

ESTES PARK, Colo. — The family of 20-year-old Micah Tice, the United States Air Force Academy Preparatory School student missing on Longs Peak near Estes Park, Colorado, criticized the National Park Service during a Friday evening press conference.Benjamin Tice claims that officials with Rocky Mountain National Park, which has suspended the search for the 20-year-old man missing for two weeks in wintry weather, have not done enough to find his son. “Limited searches were conducted and directed by the National Park Service and their search and rescue from November 27 to December 3,” Benjamin Tice said. “A total of six days of boots on the ground.”Micah Tice has been missing for nearly two weeks. He was last seen hiking on Longs Peak in Rocky Mountain National Park on November 24. Search resources have included ground crews, trained dogs and helicopters. However, Benjamin Tice said his family has been denied access to additional resources in the search for their son.“Despite our family’s pleas with the National Park Service to request assistance from the military, and specifically Fort Carson’s Mountaineering Division, we were repeatedly denied and were told that the National Park Service had sufficient resources,“ he said.In a statement to KMGH, Kyle Patterson, the public affairs officer for Rocky Mountain National Park, detailed the park's efforts in locating the cadet."The search for Micah has continued in severe winter conditions.
