SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Not long after a group of comic book fans founded San Diego Comic-Con, a like-minded band established a celebration of all things cosplay."Costume-Con" is returning to San Diego for the first time in 30 years. The convention will be held May 11-14 in Hazard Center at the DoubleTree in Mission Valley.Since its start in 1983, Costume-Con has traveled the world every year. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Police are investigating a fatal officer-involved shooting in San Diego's Southcrest neighborhood. The shooting happened on 40th Street near National Avenue around 5:13 p.m., according to Captain Tom Underwood with the San Diego Police Department. In an evening update, Underwood confirmed that the suspect of a machete attack died at the hospital. Wednesday night's events started earlier in the afternoon on Boston Avenue, where police responded to several 911 calls for the machete attack. The suspect, identified Thursday as 48-year-old Vaughn Harrison Denham, wielding the machete is said to have known the man he attacked. 10News spoke to a man who lives at the home where the attack happened. He said the attacker is his sister's boyfriend. He said the boyfriend came over to the house and got into an argument with a family friend over a dog chain. The boyfriend then grabbed a machete and began striking the victim over the head, then to the rest of his body. That man was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, according to police.Shortly after the machete attack, Denham was pointed out to police by witnesses.Denham had a three to four-foot metal chain in his hands when an officer approached, which he then began to swing at the officer, police said. The officer backed up, according to witnesses, telling Denham to drop the chain. When he failed to comply the officer used a taser, but it was ineffective and Denham continued to approach. At this point the officer fired his weapon at Denham, hitting him at least once. "The suspect then fought police, who tried to take him into custody," Underwood said. "He was ultimately taken into custody (and) immediately transported to the hospital, where unfortunately he did not survive his wounds and was pronounced dead at the hospital."Those who know Denham told 10News he is usually a nice person, but he had been acting up lately. Neighbors said they saw him swinging around a bat a day before the attack. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — More rain arrived in San Diego Wednesday, less than a week after a storm swept through the county, leaving some areas flooded and city crews preparing for the wet weather.In Coronado, on First Street, crews worked to clear pipes near the shoreline. This is a large reason for flooding in the area. Public Services Director, Clifford Maurer, says flooding comes after sand and sediment gets into the storm drain from the high tides.“Some of the outfalls, the pipes that go into the bay or into the open waters have flapper valves on them. So they only allow water to go out, not come in,” says Maurer. “But when the water is above those valves there’s nothing you can do. There’s just nowhere for the water go."RELATED: Check out your daily forecastThe City of Coronado is also offering sandbags to residents. The bags are already filled and can be picked up at four different locations around the island.The City of San Diego is also preparing for the rain. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Months after pricey photography equipment disappeared during a car burglary in Pacific Beach, the victim made a stunning discovery at an estate sale right in his own neighborhood.Near Pacific Beach Drive and Ingraham Street in February, Danny Desanti came out and found all the doors of his hatchback open. Desanti, a professional photographer, had loaded up the night before for an early morning shoot in Santa Barbara."Didn't want to wake up my baby, so I loaded items the night before ... huge loss for me," said Desanti.The loss was dozens of items and more than ,000 worth of missing equipment, painful for a small business owner."Since then, I've been slowly buying the stuff back and renting the gear," said Desanti.Nine months later, Desanti saw a sign for an estate sale less than a block from his home. The sale was taking place at a house of an elderly man he had never met.He stopped by and after some browsing inside, something caught his eye. He looked around and saw a lighting clamp which looked very familiar. That's when he peered in for a closer look."My heart skipped a beat. Couldn't believe it. Absolutely shocked," said Desanti.Written on the clamp was his last name. The clamp was stolen during the car break-in. He says he continued to browse and found a handful of other items that were taken, including cables and reflectors."Got goosebumps. The hair on back of neck stood up," said Desanti.After he ran back home to get his police report, the company handling the estate sale let him have stuff back. Most of his stolen equipment has yet to be recovered. "Anybody would bought any lighting equipment at the estate sale, I would really appreciate it if you would get in touch with me," said Desanti.The questions linger. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Police are investigating a shooting in the Chollas Creek area Friday that left a man with multiple gunshot wounds.San Diego Police say a 22-year-old Hispanic male was walking in the 5300 block of Lea St. when he was approached by a Hispanic male suspect sometime before 7 p.m. Friday. A brief conversation began between the two, before the suspect pulled out a handgun and fire four times at the man, police say.The man was hit three times by gunfire. He was taken to a nearby hospital where he was treated for non-life threatening injuries.The suspect fled the scene in a red sedan, heading eastbound on Lea St. He is described as being 5-foot 8-inches tall with thin build.
