EL CAJON (CNS) — A woman was killed by a hit-and-run driver Saturday evening in El Cajon.The crash occurred at the intersection of Dehesa and Sycuan roads about 9:30 p.m., according to the California Highway Patrol.The details of the collision were not immediately available.The vehicle that hit the woman left the scene before CHP units arrived, the department reported.She died at the scene and her name was withheld pending notification of next of kin, the CHP said.A description of the hit-and-run driver and vehicle were not immediately available. 560

During Tuesday night's debate, President Donald Trump was asked by moderator Chris Wallace if he would denounce white supremacists and militia groups. They consider themselves "western chauvinists" who want to spread "anti-political correctness."The New Yorker reports that the Proud Boys began distancing themselves from the alt-right in 2017, following the attacks of alt-right members against counter-protesters in Charlottesville."They care about the white race. We care about Western values,” McInnes said.But according to the SPLC, McInnes is a self-described "Islamaphobe" known for continuously making racist, sexist and xenophobic remarks to various media outlets.The Proud Boys also embrace political violence against leftists. The group has battled with Black Lives Matter protesters in Oregon throughout the summer. The New York Times also reports that the group instigated violence against self-described anti-fascists in New York in 2018.How the group responded to Tuesday's debateVice reports that some Proud Boys members took the President's call to "stand back and stand by" as validation to continue battling leftists in Portland. On right-wing message boards like 4chan and on the encrypted messaging app Telegram, members rejoiced and embraced the president's comments.Joe Biggs, who according to NBC News and Vice is a prominent Proud Boys organizer, said as much on the right-wing social network "Parler.""Trump basically said to go f*** them up. This makes me so happy," he wrote. The group also shared several memes that included Trump's comments, and Vice even reports that the group is selling a shirt online that includes the phrase "standing by."Tuesday's debate was held just days after the Proud Boys held a rally in Oregon. Dozens of wildfires are burning throughout California in August as news is emerging that a wildfire burning in Northern California is the largest in state history. The fires burning a few miles apart, known as the Mendocino Complex, started on July 27 and now encompasses an area the size of Los Angeles. 2018 also marks the second straight year California has recorded the state's largest wildfire following the Thomas Fire in 2017. A fire that began Monday is also spreading quickly in Orange County. Known as the Holy Fire, the blaze is tearing through fuel that has been accumulating for 40 years. Currently, nearly 30 wildfires are burning throughout California. EL CAJON, Calif. (KGTV) - Unforeseen problems at the East County Performing Arts Center will delay a renovation project and plans to turn the venue into a rock concert hall. They will also cost the city about million more to complete the project.The City Council approved the extra cost at their meeting on December 11th.The ECPAC has been closed since 2010, a casualty of the Great Recession.Over the years it fell into disrepair. But in 2017, city leaders put together a plan to reopen it. They signed a contract with concert promoter Live Nation to bring about 70 acts per year to the venue.Part of the deal called for nearly .3 million of renovations to make it more like a concert venue than a performance hall.RELATED: Renovations underway as Live Nation takes over East County Performing Arts CenterAs that work went on, other problems surfaced. Engineers found the heating, ventilation and air conditioning system needed to be replaced. They also found parts of the roof that needed repairs.The extra cost for those two combined is about .7 million.To prepare for any further problems that the city also agreed to add 2,000 to the budget as "contingency" money.The new money will come from the city's general fund, which had a surplus last year. They'll also use about 0,000 from the original budget for renovations that hasn't been spent yet.Speaking at the Council Meeting on the 11th, Mayor Bill Wells voiced support for the extra cost, saying the project shouldn't be done with "half measures.""Since we're investing so much in this and Live Nation doesn't want it to be a hot summer day in August and have the air conditioning go out, we collectively made the decision it was prudent to spend the extra money," Wells said.With the extra work, the venue will now open in the fall of 2019. (CNS) -- Firefighters were working Tuesday to extinguish a brush fire that has charred at least 100 acres of vegetation near the U.S.-Mexico border.The so-called Border 11 Fire was reported around 8:30 p.m. Monday in a mountainous area west of Marron Valley and south of Dulzura, Cal Fire Capt. Issac Sanchez said, adding that no homes or structures were immediately threatened.The fire was located in an area that was difficult to access, but heavy cloud cover and high humidity Tuesday morning was helping to keep the flames at bay, Sanchez said.Crews requested an air attack to help crews on the ground, but aircraft were unable to fly Tuesday morning because of the heavy cloud cover, he said. A better estimate about the size of the fire will be available once air crews are able to survey the area.The cause of the fire was under investigation.As of 3:30 p.m., the fire was 60 percent contained. 926
