VALLEY CENTER, Calif. (KGTV) - Family members are mourning the loss of Roland Escarcega Jr., a father of five and an apparent victim of those deadly blue pills. When Shonta Chaloux last saw his cousin, Escarcega was his usual jovial self."We were joking. I gave him a hard time, and he gave me a hard time," said Chaloux.Two months later, Chaloux got the news."Devastated, sad ... it was a family member who found him at his home," said Chaloux.Escarcega, 39, was found dead in his bed in late July at his home on the San Pasqual Indian Reservation after Escarcega, who worked for the tribe's water department, hadn't shown up for work. Chaloux doesn't know all the details, but says his cousin is one of the victims of the deadly pills mentioned in a sheriff's department warning."Assuming whoever went into his room and what was recovered matches what was found in the other victim's homes," said Chaloux.In late July, deputies said blue counterfeit Oxycodone pills, likely laced with Fentanyl, caused four overdose deaths in 36 hours. Chaloux says his cousin was among those who died during those 36 hours. Chaloux did not know his cousin was taking painkillers or who may have supplied them. "Whoever cut those pills, they deserve to go to prison. They are killing people," said Chaloux.Chaloux is hoping by sharing Escarcega's story, he can help other families."Listen to family members if they are struggling and see what they're struggling with," said Chaloux.For those who turn to the streets for pain relief, he has this message. "Don't do it. You're playing Russian Roulette with your own life," said Chaloux.Escarcega's funeral will be held Tuesday. UPDATE 8:54 p.m. - Nov. 9, 2019SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The San Diego Police Department has called off Saturday's Amber Alert after determining that the man who reported his vehicle stolen with a child inside filed a false report.The man told officers that his acquaintance, 29-year-old Osman Rahimi, drove off in his vehicle with an 11-year-old inside, according to SDPD Lt. Shawn Takeuchi.The man described the boy, named Johnny Diaz, as a Hispanic child, 4 feet tall, wearing a white shirt and “Transformers” pajama pants."Detectives contacted the California Highway Patrol to put out an Amber Alert in an effort to find the boy," said Takeuchi.Oceanside Police Department officers located the vehicle and Rahimi near the Aliso Creek Rest Area but the child was not with Rahimi."SDPD officers took custody of Rahimi and transported him to SDPD headquarters along with the man who made the report, and the Amber Alert was cancelled," said Takeuchi.Takeuchi said they conducted numerous interviews and determined that no child was involved. Detectives are still working to determine if Rahimi is responsible for stealing the car.The man who made the report, who has not yet been identified, may also face charged of filing a false report, according to Takeuchi."While it appears the original report was false, the mission of our department is to protect all life," said Takeuchi. The pair were last seen at 5:45 a.m. Saturday in Upland, California, which is in San Bernardino County. Brandon Alexander is considered to be armed and dangerous.Brandon Alexander may have also taken the child's mother, according to Upland Police. Police say she is a white female in her early thirties. She has a restraining order against him, police said.Brandon Alexander is described as 5' 10" and 240 pounds with brown hair and blue eyes.
