When officers arrived at the home, they found 30-year-old Joel Parks, who unable to take care of himself, deceased.His grandmother and guardian, Lillian Parks, told officers on scene she "overdosed her grandson with the intention of ending his life," according to police.Police say Parks admitted to everything."She made statements to responding officers that she had purposely overdosed him cause she's dealing with some medical issues herself," Capt. "She's worried when she's gone there will be nobody there to care for him.Thiers said Joel lived in a group home five days a week and spent weekends with his grandmother.After Parks is medically evaluated, police say she’ll be charged with 2nd degree murder. "At the end of the day, Lillian is responsible for the death of another human being," Thiers said. "So, she will be charged with 2nd-degree murder upon her release. However, the owner refuses, saying it’s a freedom of speech.Marlene McDade proudly displays a Trump 2020 flag in her front yard along NW 36th Place in Cape Coral. On Wednesday, she got an anonymous letter from one of her neighbors asking her to take it down.“It’s my freedom. This is my yard,” said McDade.McDade argues taking the flag down is against her First Amendment right.Part of the letter sent to her says, “Flying the Trump flag, you tell all your neighbors that you disrespect them.”“I don’t disrespect anybody in my neighborhood, I treat everybody the same,” said McDade.The letter goes on to say that removing the flag will bring peace to the neighborhood. “People have to understand I don’t stop them from doing what they want to do,” said McDade. “They have no right to stop me from what I want to do in my yard.”Bottom line, she thinks the letter is foolish. “Quit being so negative about everything. Everyone has a right to their opinion, and I usually keep my opinion to myself, but that’s my flag and it’s staying,” said McDade.She said what she puts in her yard is her business.“Even if my neighbors wanted to put a Hillary (Clinton) sign or an Elizabeth Warren sign in their yard, I don’t care. after "recent developments in the investigation have led investigators to believe the children may now be in danger."The Stafford County Sheriff's Office (SCSO) says it is searching for Melody Bannister and her four children, who were last seen in Moulton, Alabama on Aug. 20.According to the SCSO, Bannister told deputies in June that her children had been abused by a family member. Child Protective Services later determined the allegations were unfounded, but before the investigation ended, Bannister and her four children left Virginia for a planned vacation to Alabama. They never returned.The Stafford County Juvenile Domestic and Relations Court eventually granted custody of the children to their father. Bannister petitioned the court in Alabama and requested that custody be issued to her there, but courts ordered her to return her children to the father in Virginia.Bannister did not comply and was last seen in Alabama on Aug. 20.
