DULZURA, Calif. (KGTV) -- Three fires burned in rural East County Wednesday afternoon as Cal Fire worked to extinguish the flames. According to Cal Fire, all three of the fires sparked in the community of Dulzura along Highway 94 between Otay Lakes Road and Freezer Road. Video of the blaze shows traffic in the area backed up for several miles after crews closed Highway 94 between Otay Lakes Road and Barrett Lake Road. Around 5:30 p.m., Cal Fire said crews were able to stop the forward rate of spread of all three fires. In total, all three fires burned slightly less than 32 acres. Sky10 was live over the fire. Early Friday morning Japanese time, officials from the Japanese government told its citizens to stay indoor as a missile fired from North Korea flew over the nation and into the Pacific Ocean, NHK reported. NHK reported said that the missile flew over the Hokkaido region of Japan. Even after the missile passed, Japanese officials warned that debris could still strike parts of the Hokkaido region.South Korea's news agency Yonhap reported that a missile was launched from near Pyongyang.The Japanese government said that it did not attempt to intercept the missile, NHK reported. This is the second missile fired from North Korea over Japan in the last month. On Aug. 29, a missile was fired from North Korea and flew over Japan. The missile launch comes just days after the UN placed sanctions on North Korea for its testing of atomic weapons. On Sept. 3, a large artificial earthquake was detected in North Korea, and North Korea state TV claimed the nation had successfully tested an atomic bomb.  1045

EL CAJON, Calif. (KGTV) -- An El Cajon Police officer is recovering after being hit in the head with a hammer during a foot pursuit with a suspect. According to police, the incident happened near West Douglas Avenue and Van Houten Avenue. Police responded the scene after a suspect, later identified as Robert Dille, 30, reportedly shattered several windows at a Jack in the Box while trying to rob an armored truck making a delivery. Once they arrived, officers chased the suspect on foot. During the chase, Dille struck an officer in the head with a hammer after a Taser was ineffective. The officer was taken to the hospital before being treated and released.  711

EL CAJON (CNS) - A driver whose blood-alcohol content was nearly quadruple the legal limit slammed into the back of a pregnant woman's car in Ramona two years ago, killing the woman and her unborn child, a prosecutor told a jury Wednesday.But a defense attorney denied that his client caused the crash, claiming the prosecution's case was based entirely on circumstantial evidence and a shoddy police investigation.Andrew Milonis, 46, is accused in the Mother's Day 2017 crash that killed 29-year-old Jessica Foderingham and her unborn child, a girl who Foderingham and her husband planned to name Ayanna. The couple then left home for Jessica Foderingham's grandmother's house in Ramona, taking two cars -- Jessica in her Dodge Dart and Christian driving the boys in his Hyundai.He was driving ahead of his wife when he heard a loud bang behind him, saw a dark-colored SUV swerve onto a sidewalk and witnessed his wife's car slam into a tree. An off- duty firefighter helped Foderingham perform CPR until emergency personnel arrived and took her to Palomar Medical Center in Escondido, where she died, according to the victim's husband.Milonis' attorney, Ward Clay, told jurors the crash was "a tragic accident" but said Milonis was not responsible."No one witnessed exactly how the accident happened," Clay said.The attorney said Christian Foderingham never got a good look at the SUV driver.Foderingham testified that the SUV had tinted windows and there might have been two people inside. He could only confirm that the driver was Caucasian.Clay claimed that at the time of the crash, Milonis was not near the crash scene.The attorney also said the California Highway Patrol "made major mistakes" in their investigation of the case, and that "critical, forensic evidence" had been lost or destroyed, though he did not specify what that evidence was.Clay said he expected the jury to be "angry and want to hold someone responsible. DOHA, Qatar (AP) — The United States and the Taliban have signed a peace agreement aimed at ending the 18-year war in Afghanistan, America's longest. The signing could help President Donald Trump fulfill a key campaign promise to extract America from its “endless wars.” Under the agreement, the U.S. will begin withdrawing thousands of troops in exchange for Taliban commitments to prevent Afghanistan from being a launchpad for terrorist attacks.If the Taliban meet their commitments, all U.S. troops would leave in 14 months. The U.S. invaded Afghanistan after the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks to overthrow the Taliban, who had hosted Osama bin Laden and al-Qaida as they planned and celebrated the assault.The agreements are considered the first step for talks with Afghan factions, which are likely to be complicated. Under the agreement, the Afghan government would release 5,000 Taliban fighters, but it's unclear whether the government will do that.
