SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - We're all feeling it every time we go to the pump, and some new numbers reveal how much lighter our wallets are.Every time Stephanie Sicat gets in the car for her commute from San Marcos to Kearny Mesa for her job as a radio producer, thoughts of work are not the only thing on her mind."Consciously thinking of gas, gas, gas," said Sicat. In all, Sicat spends about 0 dollars in gas every week.  She's hardly alone.  We looked at those gas costs in terms of your commute.  According to a scientific 10News/Union Tribune poll, 38% of county residents say they're spending between and 0 a month in gas on the commute.  31% are spending between 0 and 0.  And 10 percent are forking over more than 0 every month.  For Sicat, all those numbers add up to some major belt tightening."I'd say after paying for bills and rent, a third of what remains goes to gas," said Sicat.Sicat says eating out is now basically a special occasion thing.  She says even shopping for little things has become a math problem."Socks, toothpaste ... mouthwash, personal things I need around the house, I can't spend on those because I have to spend on gas," said Sicat. On May 14, the average national price of regular gas was .87. In San Diego, the figure was almost one dollar higher, according to AAA.  Gas prices are volatile. GasBuddy.com has been tracking price fluctuations related to politics. Gas prices rose nationwide last week following news of President Trump’s Iran withdrawal.“Some of the factors at play in the rising prices: President Trump’s withdraws the U.S. from the nuclear deal with Iran and oil supplies that have continued to drop as U.S. exports surpass Venezuela—a surprising feat given Venezuela has the largest proven oil reserves in the world. In addition, as money continues to flow into commodities as bets for higher oil prices rise, there’s a strong chance of seeing crude oil prices continue to rally in the weeks ahead, with the odds of hitting /gallon nationally now better than 65% just in time for the summer driving season,” said Patrick DeHaan, head of petroleum analysis for GasBuddy. HOW TO SAVE MONEYWatch how you drive!  Fuel economy starts with steady speeds, because cars burn extra fuel during acceleration. Decelerate by coasting whenever possible. Also, use air conditioning conservatively to reduce the cooling demand on your car.Get your car prepped to save gas. Removing unnecessary items can lighten your car and make it more fuel efficient. Keeping tires properly inflated and routinely maintaining the car will keep the engine at peak performance. Edmunds found that 'calm' driving and maintenance could save a combined 38 percent on fuel.Buy your gas at the right time. GasBuddy analyzed gas prices for the first quarter of 2018 and found the best days to fill ‘er up. In California, Tuesday was the cheapest day to buy gas, while Friday was the most expensive. The best time to drive to the pump was between 8 and 10 a.m.Shop around. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — While enjoying a moment at the park over the weekend, a Carlsbad family was on the receiving end of an act of kindness from a stranger. The family says they are now hoping to find that person to say thank you. After months of staying at home, the family was excited to spend a day at Buccaneer Park in Oceanside. Eleven-year-old Jacobi and 12-year-old Jordan couldn’t wait to get outside.“They’re too old of the playground area, the swings and things like that,” says mom Tamara Coronado. “They look forward to the open space, the grass area, and definitely the basketball courts.”But Coronado says park officials had not yet reinstalled the basketball hoops, something the boys were looking forward to. The kids were left to make up their own games. It caught the attention of one man.“Forty-five minutes to an hour later, he came back… with a crafting reef from Dollar Tree and a very small basketball that would fit inside.”The man used a power drill to attach the wreath to a tree to form a makeshift hoop so that the boys could play basketball.“All that he asked was that we leave the wreath and the ball in place so that after we left, other families could use it,” says Coronado. “But the fact that he went out of his way like he did was, I just couldn’t believe it.”The mom says even though a lot is going on around the country, she wants others to know there are still kind people in the world. The family didn’t get the man’s name, but they’re hoping to find him to say thank you.“He may have not thought twice about it, and hasn’t thought about it since, but he really touched me and my family.” 1632

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Uber will remove all rental bikes and scooters from San Diego next week, the company said Thursday. The rideshare company, which expanded into rentals, will cease its two-wheeled operations Sept. 19. Uber will continue to operate in partnership with Naval Base San Diego and Naval Base Point Loma. “We agree with local elected officials in San Diego who’ve said current micromobility regulations foster an unsustainable operating environment, which is why we’re ending our operations as of today. We look forward to working with the city to develop more sensible regulations,” a company spokesperson told 10News. "This is simply a market correction in an oversaturated industry that jeopardizes the safety of San Diegans and visitors. I continue to call for a moratorium on electric scooters until we develop a fiscally responsible and well thought-out plan that priorities public and environmental safety," said City Councilwoman Barbara Bry.In May, the San Diego City Council implemented new regulations for dockless scooters as a way to increase public safety while also allowing the companies to stay in San Diego. Companies were required to pay a permit fee of about ,000 every six months, create corrals, and enforce a speed limit as low as 3 miles per hour in certain areas. The rules also banned parking scooters near schools, hospitals, or near Petco Park.Uber brought the red and black JUMP e-scooters and bikes into the San Diego market in fall 2018, offering free rides during the introductory period. The scooters are currently available in 13 U.S. cities, according to Uber’s website. JUMP bikes are available in 20 U.S. cities. “We plan to work with the city to help build sensible regulations in the near future and look forward to returning to San Diego in the future,” Uber officials said. 1836

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Unions were the big winners as the San Diego Airport Authority decided to require contractors to enter into a project labor agreement in a 5-3 vote. PLA’s entail that unions will not strike and the airport will in turn run all the work through labor unions. Opposition to the PLA says they are worried the project will be even more costly to accommodate union dues and that non-union local workers will be excluded from the job. “It’s completely unfair,” said Steve Stroder, who represents” [they] are being told they can’t work on a project in San Diego.” Unions say their track record of completing marquee jobs on time like the county courthouse and under budget speaks for itself. “I mean we’ve proven that we can do this work,” said Keith Maddox of the San Diego Imperial Counties Labor Council, ”our workers are local.” The vote will be made after several hours of public testimony. 916
