SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Officials with the the Department of Homeland Security announced Friday plans to screen people returning from restricted countries.American citizens, legal permanent residents, and their immediate families returning to the United States will be required to arrive at one of 13 airports for enhanced screening for coronavirus.“While the overall risk of serious infection from the coronavirus to the general public remains low at this time, the Trump administration is taking these aggressive measures to keep the risk low, requiring all Americans returning from affected areas in Europe to be funneled through 13 airports for screening upon their return to the U.S.,” said Acting Secretary Wolf. “To minimize disruptions to travelers, TSA, CBP, and air carriers are working to identify qualifying passengers before their scheduled flights. Kennedy International Airport (JFK), New York· Los Angeles International Airport, (LAX), California· Miami International Airport (MIA), Florida· Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR), New Jersey· San Francisco International Airport (SFO), California· Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA), Washington· Washington-Dulles International Airport (IAD), VirginiaDHS said that after checking in with customs, arriving travelers will proceed to to enhanced entry screening where the passenger will be asked about their medical history, current condition, and asked for contact information for local health authorities. "Passengers will then be given written guidance about COVID-19 and directed to proceed to their final destination, and immediately home-quarantine in accordance with CDC best practices," officials said.Wolf acknowledged that the process maybe "disruptive" but is necessary to help prevent the spread of the coronavirus.In a Wednesday evening address at the White House, Trump announced he would ban all travel from all European countries for 30 days. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Police officers chased down two drivers in stolen cars, but only one man was arrested early Wednesday morning.According to San Diego Police, officers spotted a BMW that had just been stolen driving down Hotel Circle South in Mission Valley around 2 a.m. They followed the car, which appeared to be following another car, a black Dodge Charger.When officers tried to pull them over, both drivers sped off in different directions.Just when officers thought they lost the BMW, they found it in a Serra Mesa neighborhood. They moved in with their guns drawn and surrounded the car, but no one was inside.Officers eventually found the suspect hiding in a nearby shed and took him into custody.The driver of the Dodge Charger led officers towards Mission Valley, but that car was later found abandoned behind a Verizon store. 847

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — More people have tested positive at the San Diego Convention Center, which has been serving as a shelter for San Diego's homeless since April.Regular testing has been conducted at the Convention Center since the shelter opened, but there was a rise in positive cases starting with tests administered on Dec. 3. Since then, there have been 120 positive cases detected. According to city officials, 115 are clients and five are staff members.Prior to Dec. 3, the city says there had been 27 positive cases since April.Dr. Eric McDonald, medical director of the County Health and Human Services Agency's Epidemiology and Immunization Branch, released the following statement: 699
