BEIJING, Nov. 27 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Hu Jintao's participation in the Economic Leaders' Meeting of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum in Lima on Nov.17-26 and his state visits to Costa Rica, Cuba, Peru and Greece are rich in content and fruitful in result, Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi said here Thursday. Necessary reforms should be carried out in international financial system by following the principles of comprehensiveness, balance, step by step and effectiveness to create the system environment for the sound development of the world economy.     He also proposed to change the existing mode of unsustainable economic growth in an effort to solve the deep-seated problems in economic growth of various countries.     Hu also called for support to the developing countries struck by the financial crisis to help keep the momentum of their economic development.          BOOSTING STABLE DEVELOPMENT OF PRAGMATIC COOPERATION AMONG APEC MEMBERS     At the meeting, Hu put forward five-point proposals on dealing with major global issues of common concern.     He urged APEC member economies to build consensus and promote sound development of the multilateral trading regime.     He also urged them to take up responsibilities and jointly tackle climate change.     In addition, APEC member economies should enhance exchanges and cooperation and join forces to combat natural disasters, he said.     Efforts should be made to regulate guidance and strengthen corporate social responsibility, he added.     The Chinese president also stressed the importance for APEC members to take coordinated actions and ensure world food and energy security.     On APEC's future development, Hu said APEC should maintain its nature of a forum for economic cooperation and its approach of conducting cooperation on a non-binding basis.     He said that the APEC members should continue to promote balanced progress in economic and technical cooperation and trade and investment liberalization.     "In particular, we should increase input in economic and technical cooperation to enhance capacity-building in developing members and narrow the development gap."     Hu also presented proposals on tackling climate change, combating natural disasters and boosting the exploration of human resources.     He expressed China's willingness to help finance the network for Asia-Pacific forest restoration and sustained management, and host the APEC Human Resources Development Ministerial Meeting in 2010.     The proposals have drawn widespread welcome and support from the participating members.

CHENGDU, Oct. 26 (Xinhua) -- China's central government has pledged to help its Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) to cope with the impact of the ongoing international financial crisis.     It was revealed by Vice Premier Li Keqiang when meeting the SAR's Chief Executive Ho Hau Wah in Chengdu, capital of southwest Sichuan Province on Sunday.     Ho arrived here on Sunday, leading a delegation of the SAR to attend the Ninth Western China International Economy and Trade Fair.     The Vice Premier said the central government would give all-out support to the SAR's Chief Executive and government in administration in line with laws. It would actively assist the SAR's government to maintain stability and prosperity of the region.     Li also praised the SAR's government for promoting Macao's exchange and cooperation with the country's inland regions and hoped that Macao could make more contribution to economic construction and development in China's western region.

It will be formally signed by Chinese Vice Premier Wang Qishan and U.S. Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson.     Fourth, institutions including China's NDRC and the China Exim Bank, as well as the U.S. Trade and Development Agency and the Export-Import Bank of the United States, will sign a memorandum of understanding on measures to support the 10-year energy cooperation.     Fifth, seven eco-partnerships from the two countries will sign letters of intent on cooperation. These agreements include one involving China's southwestern Chongqing Municipality, the U.S. city of Denver and car maker Ford on an electric and hybrid automobile project.     The two-day SED, which is to end on Friday, also covers macro-economic risks, trade challenges and the investment environment.

BEIJING, Jan. 21 (Xinhua) -- Taiwan's chief negotiator Ching Pin-kung hailed Wednesday significant progress on cross-Straits relations over the past year.     The cross-Straits relations in 2008 have made several breakthroughs, said Chiang, chairman of the island's Straits Exchange Foundation (SEF), at Wednesday's press conference.     SEF and mainland's Association for Relations Across the Taiwan Straits (ARATS), the two main negotiation bodies, held their first meeting in Beijing last June after the talks were suspended for almost 10 years. The second meeting was held in Taiwan in November.     The two sides reached six agreements after the two rounds of talks, including the historical direct links of transport, trade and post services which started on December 15.     "With all these breakthroughs, the cross-Straits ties have turned to be normal and practical with mutual trust and understanding," Chiang said.     Chiang said SEF would persist with building "positive" and "interactive" cross-Straits relations in the coming new year.     The main topics in the next round of the talks between the mainland and Taiwan, scheduled for later this year, would include joint efforts on cracking down on crimes, financial cooperation and regular cross-Straits flights, Chiang said.     Board members, supervisors and consultants in SEF planned to visit the mainland in 2009, according to Chiang.

BRUSSELS, Jan. 29 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao arrived in Brussels on Thursday evening for an official visit to the European Union (EU) headquarters.     The premier was welcomed at the Brussels international airport by European Commission officials, Belgian Foreign Ministry officials, officials of the Chinese mission to the EU and the Chinese embassy in Belgium, as well as Chinese students studying in Belgium.     In a written statement distributed to the press upon his arrival, Wen said the world is undergoing profound changes with a volatile international situation, more regional conflicts and a spreading financial crisis.     In this context, to enhance dialogue, promote consultations and deepen cooperation is in the interests of both China and the EU, and in line with the trend of the times, which is for peace, stability and development, he said.     Wen said he is looking forward to having frank and in-depth exchange of views with EU leaders on China-EU relations, on how to jointly deal with the global financial crisis, and on other international and regional issues of common concern.     "I hope and believe that this visit, as an important trip of confidence, will enhance the confidence of China and the EU in their future relations and in practical and mutually beneficial cooperation. I also hope and believe that this visit will enhance the confidence of the international community in the all-round strategic partnership between China and the EU," he said.     During his two-day visit in Brussels, Wen is scheduled to hold talks with European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso. He will also meet EU foreign and security policy chief Javier Solana.     Brussels is the third leg of Wen's European tour after Switzerland, where he attended the annual meeting of the World Economic Forum in Davos, and Germany. The trip will also take him to Spain and Britain.
