Earlier this week, both the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Food and Drug Administration investigate an outbreak of salmonella infections across multiple states, possibly linked to imported wood ear mushrooms. The agencies said consumers should be on notice when ordering food with mushrooms because the dry mushrooms, which were likely imported by Wismettac Asian Foods, Inc. of Santa Fe Springs, California, could cause salmonella infections. The agencies say the dry mushrooms were shipped to restaurants in 31 states and Washington, D.C."Consumers can ask restaurants where mushrooms are from before ordering to avoid eating recalled mushrooms," the FDA said. The CDC says 41 reported cases of the salmonella infection in 10 states, and four people have been hospitalized. On its website, Wismettac Asian Foods said they voluntarily recall the 5-pound bags of dried fungus imported from China. 920

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (AP) — Saudi Arabia’s state television says final verdicts have been issued in the case of slain Washington Post columnist and Saudi critic Jamal Khashoggi after his family announced pardons that spared five from execution. The Riyadh Criminal Court issued final verdicts Monday against eight people. The court ordered a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison for five, with one receiving a 10-year sentence and two others being ordered to serve seven years in prison. The trial was widely criticized by rights groups and an independent U.N. investigator, who noted that no senior officials nor anyone suspected of ordering the killing was found guilty. The independence of the court was also brought into question. 747

Driving through Brazil to Rio de Janeiro, you might spot an eerie sight on the side of the road: a derelict gang of Santas, lying abandoned surrounded by palm trees and greenery.Look closely and you'll see these Father Christmas clones aren't alone. There's a sad looking sleigh and dilapidated reindeer nearby. Soon you'll spot the faded candy canes, battered slides and an eerie house.Welcome to Park Albanoel, in Itaguaí, Brazil — an abandoned Christmas theme park. The park was the brainchild of politician Antonio Albano Reis, colloquially known as the "Santa Claus of Quintino" because he dressed as Santa each Christmas. It was going to be a series of fun, themed-lands over an expansive area — more than 30 million square meters — but only the Santa area was completed.Following Reis' sudden death in a road accident in 2004, Park Albanoel closed and fell into disrepair. 884

EL CAJON, (KGTV) -- A jewelry store owner in El Cajon left with nearly nothing after thieves stole 0,000 worth of gold from him.Forever Fine Jewelry means everything to the owner. It's a sanctuary for his craft -- covered in silver and gold -- until thieves came in and took it away. The owner's daughter didn't want to show her face or give her name, but she walked 10News through surveillance video from February 28th.That's the day a group of nine people stole 0,000 worth of jewelry. Two of them were carrying babies."This group right here, the four people right here, are going to pull him all the way to this corner cause that’s the farthest away from the back room."Meanwhile, a woman in a black shirt and long skirt crawls on the floor to the safe in the back. For six minutes, cameras roll on her bragging everything in sight."She's getting all the bangles, she's getting all the earrings, chains, mostly the bangles, the bracelets the anklets," said the owner's daughter. She also took ,000 in cash."That’s the cash box and that’s where the detective was able to get her fingerprints as well. "The owner hit a panic button once he started getting suspicious but the alarm didn't go off.A family of immigrants who started with nothing -- now back to square one. "We're bringing everything that we have to help my father start from zero again." 1367

EL CAJON, Calif. (KGTV) - A Little League in El Cajon reeling from COVID-related hardship was targeted in a weekend theft."It's horrible. I don't now how someone could steal from a little league ... It was gut-wrenching," said Erik Weichelt, President of the Fletcher Hills Little League."Just devastating for the league," said Weichelt's son Gage, 12, who plays in the league.Discovered on Saturday: a damaged fence, gate shoved open, and a locked batting cage that was broken into. A bevy of equipment was stolen, including a riding mower, a pitching machine, two custom hitting mats, two sets of catcher's gear, three catcher's mitts and hundreds of baseballs."To steal from the kids just doesn't make sense," said Weichelt. The total loss was about ,000."What a troubling year for this to happen," said Weichelt. So far this year, COVID-19 health orders have canceled the team's main fundraiser, along with limiting all activities to practices and no games. In the concession area, there is ,500 worth of food which will likely go unsold."No revenue has come in. We're losing money because fees are still there. The cost of lights and maintenance isn't going away," said Weichelt.Their financial dilemma is now a bigger issue because of the theft. The loss of the equipment will limit the activities the kids are able to do, during a time when baseball, for many, has become a lifeline."No pitching machine means we can't hit. No lawn mower, no grass to play on. Right now, baseball is like an important sport for kid to get outside and play, and now we can't," said Gage. The league is insured, but it's unclear if the theft and vandalism will be covered.A Gofundme campaign has been set up to help the league with the cost of replacing the stolen items. 1768
