VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) - Did you know Vista was once the Strawberry Capital of the World? The North San Diego County city invites you to celebrate its history this Sunday at the annual Vista Strawberry Festival. In the 1960s and 1970s, strawberries from Vista were shipped around the world. The crates were so popular, strawberries in the Netherlands became known as “vistas”, according to the festival’s website. The community celebration, to be held May 26, brings events including a run, Little Ms. Strawberry Shortcake pageant, and contests for pie eating and beer stein-holding. Visitors can also enjoy bands, a wine and beer garden, vendors, and carnival rides. The festival runs from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Main Street and Hanes Place in downtown Vista. (KGTV) – A head-on collision at a Vista intersection left one driver dead and sent three others to the hospital, San Diego County sheriff’s officials said.The collision involving two vehicles happened just before 11 p.m. Thursday on West Vista Way at Copper Avenue.According to sheriff’s officials, a black Infiniti sedan was traveling westbound on West Vista Way when it collided head-on into a blue Chevrolet hatchback that was traveling eastbound on West Vista Way.The Chevrolet’s 51-year-old male driver died at the scene, while a passenger in the car was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.The Infiniti’s 22-year-old female driver was hospitalized with serious injuries, according to officials. A passenger in the Infiniti suffered minor injuries and was taken to the hospital for evaluation.The cause of the crash is under investigation, but officials believe alcohol was a factor in the collision. 935

(KGTV) -- The Federal Bureau of Investigation and the San Diego Sheriff's Department need your help identifying the man responsible for an attempted bank robbery on the 1700 block of University Drive. The man entered the Bank of America on Thursday around 1:30 p.m., pulling his gray, hooded sweatshirt over his head he approached the teller and handed over a note demanding money. The robber was denied money and departed the bank on foot. The investigation indicates the man may have used the “Sprinter” train to escape from the area.
