CHULA VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) -- A South Bay family who discovered the body of their loved one buried in a backyard in Tijuana tells 10News there's now an arrest warrant for that woman's stepson. Fernanda Gonzalez went missing in Tijuana on February 2nd. Her sister, Erika Gonzalez, tells 10News Tijuana authorities issued the warrant for 20-year-old Aaron Seth Juarez wanted in connection with his stepmom's murder. The family's attorney, Jesus Rodolfo Cruz, tells 10News Fernanda's Jeep Grand Cherokee is still missing. The Jeep has California plates that read 6VXP431. Gonzalez first reported her sister missing in early February and posted on social media asking for help finding her. Gonzalez tells 10News each post had thousands of shares before she got a phone call that changed the course of the search, "somebody call me and said to keep looking for my sister because she was already dead and in the back of her yard".RELATED: Woman discovers her sister's body buried in Tijuana backyardAfter getting two calls saying the same thing, Gonzalez and her father went to Fernanda's home in Tijuana and searched the backyard, eventually finding Fernanda's body buried. CHICAGO, Ill. – The shopping frenzy at the outset of the pandemic gave many Americans their first taste of what it’s like to not have access to basic necessities. But it’s a reality that communities of color have faced for decades.A chance errand to Chicago’s west side taught entrepreneur Liz Abunaw that access to groceries, fresh fruits and vegetables was a luxury.“I'm on a commercial corridor in a Black neighborhood and none of this stuff is readily available and it didn't sit right with me,” said Abunaw.The New York native and business school graduate decided to do something about it. She started a social enterprise to bring fresh produce to the neighborhood.“When I was thinking of a name for this business, I wanted something that was distinctly rooted in Black culture,” said Abunaw.Forty Acres Fresh Market is a reference to Special Field Orders No. 15. Issued by General William T. Sherman in 1865, it promised 40 acres of land and mules for freed slaves to settle land in South Carolina, Georgia and Florida. It was revoked months later by President Andrew Johnson.“It's a cruel irony that the descendants of this country's first farmers now live in neighborhoods where they can get nothing from the earth,” she said.While more than 23 million Americans live in so-called "food deserts," researchers say food inequity disproportionately affects communities of color.“What I see is this unequal food system in this country,” said Abunaw. “I started calling it by what it is. It's food apartheid.”Originally, Abunaw started with pop-up markets and a plan to go brick and mortar. But the pandemic shifted operations. Home deliveries have more than tripled.“One thing the pandemic did was it made everybody realize what it could be like to live with food insecurity even if you're more affluent,” said Abunaw.Each day, warehouse supervisor Tracy Smith goes through the online orders, selecting and hand packing fruits and vegetables for what they call a "mix-it-up bag."“I just went through the line and picked what I thought went together,” said Smith.A recipe card helps consumers decide how to cook the fresh produce.For now, Abunaw is focused on continuing to scale up as she chips away at food inequity, one neighborhood at a time.“The consumers here deserve goods and services that are of high quality. CHULA VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) - Chula Vista Police identified Tuesday a man and woman who were shot by the woman’s ex-boyfriend in a deadly domestic violence dispute near a Costco. The incident happened Monday afternoon while Angelina Perez, 32 and Samuel Valdez, 31, were loading groceries in the trunk of their vehicle in the parking lot of the store on Broadway with their infant daughter in a stroller. Sean Illian, 48, approached them with a gun and opened fire, hitting Perez and Valdez several times, police said. The baby was not hurt.Witnesses in the parking lot saw Illian shoot himself in the head. He was pronounced dead at the hospital. Police said Perez and Illian had been in a relationship which ended badly in 2018. Perez began dating Valdez just after the breakup, investigators said. CHULA VISTA (CNS) - Energy infrastructure company LS Power unveiled what it is calling the largest battery energy storage project in the world Wednesday in the East Otay Mesa community, intended to enhance the power grid's reliability and reduce energy costs.The Gateway Energy Storage project -- currently operating at 230 megawatts and scheduled to reach 250 MW by the end of the month -- follows another LS Power battery project in Vista. That facility has been operating since 2018 and was previously the largest battery storage project in the United States at 40 MW, the company said."For more than three decades, LS Power has been at the leading edge of our nation's transition to cleaner, more innovative energy solutions, and we are powering up Gateway Energy Storage as one more component of this vision," LS Power CEO Paul Segal said. CHULA VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) — A South Bay family is trying to help residents at senior care facilities one letter at a time.When Mariana Hughes learned of the ban on non-essential visitors at local senior care facilities, the Eastlake High English teacher came up with an idea."It just broke my heart. I didn't want them to be forgotten," said Hughes.Hughes contacted four facilities in the South Bay, including several veterans homes. Her 14-year-old son Christian then started writing letters, a bunch of them. The letters are aimed at injecting a little joy."I'm just going to write more letters, whatever I can do to make people happy ... because I know these are hard times for them," he said.Hughes posted her idea on Facebook, which quickly caught fire. Others promised to write their own letters. Some sent 10news photos of children showing their cards, drawings and letters, after another teacher began her own campaign to send letters to nursing homes in the East County."If we get the word out and this catches on, lots more seniors that are lonely, afraid and sad are going to see that their community loves them," said Hughes.It's a love received, word by word."We can't maybe fix the whole world, but each person can do something every single day to lift up other people ... and this is our opportunity," said Hughes.Hughes says she's taking precautions, including washing hands before letter writing, and using stickers instead of stamps.
