LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. – Authorities in Georgia are searching for a man who broke into a Taco Bell, made himself a meal and took a nap before making off with electronics.The Gwinnett County Police Department say the burglary happened at the Lawrenceville location on Sugarloaf Parkway early Christmas morning. Surveillance video released by police on Wednesday shows the man approaching the restaurant at about 12:15 a.m. before entering through the drive-thru window. Once inside, he’s seen using the fryers to make himself a meal and then eating it. Once the man finished eating, he proceeded to take a nap on the floor of the restaurant. Three hours later, police say the suspect woke up, stole a laptop and a tablet, and left the scene.The suspect is described as a black male, who was wearing black sweatpants, a black hooded sweatshirt, and black sneakers at the time of the break-in. It's been over four months since Hurricane Michael slammed into the Florida Panhandle, but driving around some parts of Panama City, many would think it had just been four days since the storm made landfall. Especially if you saw Shelly Summers' backyard, which is now a tent community of 24 displaced strangers. “And we have more coming,” says Summers. Summers has been helping those whose homes were destroyed. "That's just what you're supposed to do,” she says. “How can you go home and shut your door and know that there are people sleeping in the woods? How can you be OK with that? That's not right." The tents have power, heat and even mattresses. Summers and her husband even built an extra shower. Summers and her husband won’t accept payment. “She won’t take it!” says one tent occupant Brittany Pitts. Instead, residents have found small ways to show their gratitude, like carving a fairy house into what was Summers’ favorite tree before the storm. But Pitts still can't help but think that no one should be living like this, especially this long after the storm. She feels the rest of the country has forgotten the victims of Hurricane Michael."You really see just how much people don't care,” Pitts says. Summers agrees, "I feel like the day after, we were forgotten about. It doesn't make me mad. It makes me sad, because that's not how it should be." TJ Dargan with FEMA’s Hurricane Michael Response Team says if residents feel forgotten, it’s through no fault of FEMA, which to date has contributed 6 million in rental assistance. “Well, FEMA is certainly focused here,” Dargan says. “We have a lot of people, and we're pouring a lot of money into this community. So no, FEMA certainly hasn't forgotten about this. The federal government hasn't forgotten about this.” But the fact that Congress has yet to fund any emergency relief for Hurricane Michael frustrates local residents, as well as local politicians.Until there’s more help, Summers believes the tents in her backyard will be her new normal for years to come, but it’s a challenge she says she'll gladly accept. 2108

This mom is a student at Florence Crittenton High School in Denver, Colorado. And at this school, all the students are moms or expecting moms. Like Emily Castaneda.“I never thought that I would go to an all-girls school, so it was kind of weird at the beginning. But I was like, I can relate to all of them, so I like it now,” said Castaneda.Castaneda is getting ready to graduate in May. She has a 1-year-old son named Eliin. Normally, she’d have to find daycare for him if she wanted to go to high school. That’s if she could afford it. “I’m like literally so close to him. I can come check him anytime. I probably wouldn’t even finish high school to be honest,” said Castaneda.This high school has daycare on-site, so new moms like Emily can continue their education. And if they need to see doctor for anything that moms, their kids, or expecting moms might need, they don’t have to go far. “We do prenatal care, we do their physicals for the children, we offer mental health services, we do dental services, any sick visits. We try to make it as easy as possible,” said Linda Almanza, a medical assistant at the clinic.The clinic, in partnership with Denver Health, helped Rebecca Roldan get through a scary moment when her second daughter had respiratory syncytial virus, or RSV.“She almost passed... I was just scared, and like coming to the clinic, they helped me. Like you don’t have to be afraid, we’re here to help with whatever medical you need,” recalled Roldan.Roldan’s daughter was in the hospital for a while, but now she’s out and healthy.Not only is the school helping her with her daughter's health issues and finishing high school, but they’re helping her look to her future. She wants to be a mental health therapist.“I’m taking phlebotomy and medical office so it gets me like in the doorstep," she said. "I’m getting an internship. I don’t know where yet, but this summer I’ll be doing a medical internship."That’s high-level training for a high school student. But Florence Critterton provides what they call a MEDConnect program, courses and work-based learning experiences for students interested in a career in the healthcare or biomedical sciences field.There are a handful of schools that offer daycare across the country from LA to Maine, but the staff here thinks the on campus clinic makes it one of a kind. “This is the only Florence Critterton with a high school and a clinic attached, and a daycare,” said Almanza.While they think they’re unique, the people who work at Florence Critterton would love to see this type of school all over the country.“This could be a role model to a lot of places in America," said Almanza. "You know, teen moms is not a thing we choose, it’s something that happens sometimes. Instead of bashing it sometimes and making it something negative, let’s make it positive." 3084
