It usually starts with a slight fever which is followed by blisters and ulcers in the mouth and rashes on the hands and feet. It is spread through contact with saliva or feces of the infected.Li stressed related departments across the country should step up work to prevent and control A/H1N1 influenza with emergency plans and ample storage of vaccines, drugs and equipment.Li added that major events, including the 2010 Shanghai Expo, will be the key events for disease control and prevention.

NINGBO, Zhejiang, May 16 (Xinhua) -- Internet of Things (IOT) -- which refers to digital networks of physical objects -- has huge potentials but many challenges lie ahead, said scientists, entrepreneurs and government officials on Sunday.IOT has become a catchword for those at the Information and Communication Technology and Urban Development Forum held in east China's coastal Ningbo this weekend on the sidelines of the Shanghai Expo; from ministers to mayors, scientists to entrepreneurs, keynote speakers to audiences.China should accelerate the development of the IOT industry so as to create a new platform for economic growth, said Li Yizhong, Minister of Industry and Information Technology in his opening speech to the forum. The first theme forum of the Shanghai World Expo is closed in Ningbo, a coastal city of east China's Zhejiang Province, May 16, 2010. The two-day forum focusing on information and communication technologies (ICT) and urban development attracted over 600 participants including renowned scholars and entrepreneurs.Minister Li's words were echoed by Zhao Hongzhu, communist party chief of Zhejiang Province, who called for more efforts to develop such key concepts as IOT, which, in his words, "present a brilliant future for urban life."In what's called Internet of Things, networks of real-world objects are linked to the Internet and interact through web services. As more objects are embedded with sensors, giving them the ability to communicate, and networked together, the possibilities are enormous, potentially resulting in new business models, improved business processes and reduced costs and risks, according to a March 2010 report by McKinsey & Co..

BEIJING, May 10 (Xinhua) -- China's Health Ministry on Monday vowed to ban smoking in all its offices in four months, part of an arduous campaign to curb public smoking around the country.Yang Qing, director with the ministry's community health department, told reporters that hospitals, clinics and other medical institutes nationwide should follow suit to impose strict smoking ban by 2011."No Smoking" signs will be placed in the ministry's conference rooms, lavatories, car parks and stairways while a designated smoking area will be set up outside the office building, the official said.He said the ministry also bans its employees from giving tobacco as gifts -- a rooted tradition in China's office culture. Employees who break the ban will be punished, while those who quit smoking in a year can expect cash rewards.Though Yang did not elaborate how hospitals and clinics under the ministry's supervision should go tobacco-free, it is widely believed that similar policies will be imposed soon among the country's medical institutes.Data from the ministry show China has more than 350 million smokers, mostly men influenced by a macho culture. Doctors with smoking habit have become a prime target of China's tobacco control campaign.Yang said smoking should be banned in all public venues, workplaces and public transport vehicles by 2011, according to the World Health Organization Framework Convention on Tobacco Control, which took effect in 2005.It was signed by the Chinese government in 2003 and ratified by the country's top legislature in 2005. National and local governments ramped up anti-smoking campaigns in recent years, but these were not effective as expected because no strict laws are in place, observers said.Yang said the ministry is now coordinating with the country's lawmakers to push for such legislation.
