(KGTV) — La Mesa is now accepting applications from residents to be a part of the city's Community Police Oversight Board.The city is looking for applicants for the newly-created 11-member panel that will provide recommendations to the Chief of Police, Mayor, City Council, and City Manager on La Mesa Police procedures and policies, as well as matters of public safety in the city.Applicants must be a resident of the city. LAWRENCE, Kan. - University of Kansas head football coach Les Miles has been diagnosed with COVID-19, the Jayhawks athletic department announced Thursday.Miles said he learned he had tested positive earlier in the day and was “beginning the isolation process at my home.”KU, which is 0-3 in 2020, has a bye this weekend and isn't scheduled to play again until Oct. 6 at West Virginia, and Miles “will continue to fulfill my head coach responsibilities remotely.”He will not, however, be present at Jayhawks practices unless and until he has recovered.“Although I will not physically be able to attend a practice, for the time being, I will be using the technology available for remote working to stay connected during staff meetings, meetings with players, etc.,” Miles said in a statement.Kansas Director of Athletics Jeff Long said Miles’ case was caught through the program’s surveillance testing protocols.“At this time, we believe he will be able to continue to perform his head coaching duties,” Long said in a statement. “Based on the other test results, no other coaches tested positive. LAKESIDE (CNS) - A neighbor helped a 76-year-old woman to safety from a house fire today, authorities said.At 10:31 a.m., San Diego County Sheriff's Department deputies responded to a residential structure fire in the 11400 block of Pinehurst Drive, according to Sgt. Greg Hampton.No other structures were threatened and the fire was extinguished shortly after deputies and fire personnel arrived, Hampton said.The woman suffered from minor burns and smoke inhalation and paramedics took her to UC San Diego Medical Center, the sergeant said.Sheriff's bomb and arson detectives responded to the scene to determine the cause of the fire. 644

LIPAN, Texas – A man in Texas is dead after a possible mountain lion attack and officials are warning nearby residents to keep young children inside at night as they search for the animal.Around 3:30 p.m. last Thursday, deputies with the Hood County Sheriff’s Office responded to the 15000 block of Howell Rd. in Lipan in reference to a missing person call.Deputies were told Christopher Allen Whiteley, 28, was missing and last seen on Wednesday, in the early morning hours.Deputies checked a wooded area nearby and eventually found Whiteley deceased, the sheriff's office said.Preliminary findings show Whiteley died from a wild animal attack, possibly a mountain lion.The sheriff’s office has contacted a governmental trapper with the USDA, who specializes in tracking and removing mountain lions. Officers said they'll work with the trapper and Texas game wardens to locate the animal.The sheriff's office urged the Lipan community to be mindful of their surrounding and to keep their young children and animals inside at night.“The safety of Hood County citizens are my priority one, but please don’t interfere with the process of locating the animal and stay clear of the area being actively worked by officials," said Hood County Sheriff Roger Deeds.Whiteley’s body was sent to the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy.This story was originally published by Thalia Brionez at KXXV. 1415

LEMON GROVE, Calif. (KGTV) - A major crash on SR-94 near Massachusetts off-ramp caused backups on the westbound lanes Wednesday night.According to CHP, the driver of an SUV traveling east and lost control just after 8 p.m. The SUV drove through shrubs on the center divider, jumped the median wall and ended up upside on the westbound lanes.The driver has been identified as a 35-year-old man. He was driving alone. He was taken to the hospital with major injuries, but was conscious, according to CHP.Alcohol is believed be a factor in the crash.Authorities on the scene were not sure if he was wearing a seatbelt.The crash caused cars to swerve out of the way, causing other accidents on the 94. One fender bender was reported, and a motorcycle rider lost of control and was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.Two lanes of traffic were closed off on the westbound lanes.
