You can work with a nonprofit credit counselor on that. There are also repayment assistance programs for private loans.Federal student loans have more options, including student loan forgiveness programs.For current students, make sure your FAFSA is up to date, so it reflects your family's current financial situations. After that, contact your school's financial aid office. PHOENIX (AP) — The 5,200 active-duty troops being sent by President Donald Trump to the U.S.-Mexico border will be limited in what they can do under a federal law that restricts the military from engaging in law enforcement on American soil.That means the troops will not be allowed to detain immigrants, seize drugs from smugglers or have any direct involvement in stopping a migrant caravan that is still about 1,000 miles from the nearest border crossing.Instead, their role will largely mirror that of the existing National Guard troops — about 2,000 in all — deployed to the border over the past six months, including providing helicopter support for border missions, installing concrete barriers and repairing and maintaining vehicles. Police in Troy, Michigan said a man armed with knives was shot and killed after charging at officers on Monday morning.According to police, they were called to the home on Saddle Brook for a domestic situation just after 7 a.m. on Monday.Officers followed the suspect, a 23-year-old man, and when he noticed officers, he started charging at them. Another officer in an unmarked car got out to distract the suspect, and then the suspect tried getting in an unmarked car.Police say he then turned toward the marked vehicle and started charging at the officer. The officer pulled out his taser and fired, but the taser was not effective and he kept charging toward officers.That's when the officer shot at the suspect several times, killing him.Police said it's been over 20 years since there was an officer-involved shooting in Troy. 849

OTAY MOUNTAIN, Calif. (KGTV) - An illegal immigrant rescued by Border Patrol agents during hot weather in South San Diego County "signaled gratitude" with a thumbs up gesture, CBP San Diego said.The man had crossed the border illegally and called 911 from Otay Mountain Thursday after midnight to get help, officials said. Agents used a helicopter to find the man and remove him from rough terrain, according to the CBP San Diego Twitter feed. Temperatures in the area were in the mid-80s with high humidity at the time.The immigrant was suffering from severe dehydration and was treated at a Border Patrol station, officials said.
