Runways at the busy airport serving the nation's capital will be closed Thursday during President Donald Trump's Independence Day event, federal authorities said. The Federal Aviation Administration announced Tuesday that operations at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport would be suspended between 6:15 p.m. and 7:45 p.m. ET to allow a ceremonial flyover of military aircraft. The runways will also be closed from 9 p.m. to 9:45 p.m. ET for the annual fireworks display, which is not connected to Trump's "Salute to America." Such a closure is unprecedented for July 4 events, an official said. The launch point for the fireworks has been moved from the National Mall to a nearby park to accommodate Trump's Lincoln Memorial display. The last such runway closure was in 2015 for a commemorative flight of World War II-era planes. The airport's website does not yet list arrivals and departures for Thursday. It showed 73 arrivals and 38 departures scheduled for the same time periods on Tuesday evening.Micah Lillard, a spokesman for the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority, said officials "anticipate some flights at Reagan National to be affected during the late afternoon and evening."This year's Independence Day festivities will include two fireworks displays and a flyover by the Blue Angels and the plane that serves as Air Force One."We're going to have planes going overhead -- the best fighter jets in the world and other planes, too," Trump said Monday. The FAA said that emergency and medical flights would "be authorized as necessary." 1570

Rep. Rashida Tlaib shared a photo of an anonymous "hateful" note posted outside her congressional office that called for Rep. Ilhan Omar to stop "disgusting Jew hatred."The note, written on a blue sticky note and posted on the placard outside Tlaib's office in the Longworth House Office Building, read: "Rep Omar, Stop your disgusting Jew hatred. Your sign says 'Justice for all.' That means Jews too. Your Jihad against the Jews will fail."The note also included the words "Am Yisrael Chai," which translates to "the nation of Israel lives."Tlaib, who is the first Palestinian-American elected to Congress and, along with Omar, serves as one of two Muslim women in Congress, tweeted a photo of the note Tuesday night. The two congresswomen are close friends."This is the hateful rhetoric & bullying on my door today. Stop the fear mongering & blantant lies. Come here w/ the value that all beings deserve human rights, including Palestinians. (Omar) & I fight for equality & justice for all. There's nothing antisemitic about that!" Tlaib wrote in the tweet. The US Capitol Police did not respond to CNN's request for comment Wednesday. The note comes several weeks after Omar, a Minnesota Democrat, stirred controversy after she suggested money was behind politicians' support for Israel -- she later apologized -- and insinuated that pro-Israel groups were pushing "allegiance to a foreign country."The comments were criticized on both sides of the aisle and prompted the Democratic-led House to 1526

Some residents in 34 counties in California will lose electricity overnight Tuesday into Wednesday in hopes to reduce the risk of the spread of wildfires, PG&E announced on Tuesday. The power outages could last several days, PG&E said. This is due to high winds that are expected in parts of California on Wednesday and Thursday. Isolated areas could have winds of 60 to 70 MPH. Gusty winds coupled with dry conditions mean conditions will be favorable for wildfires. Power company officials say that the outages will begin in the northern sections of the state, and trickle down into central and coastal sections of California. “The safety of our customers and the communities we serve is our most important responsibility, which is why PG&E has decided to turn power off to customers during this widespread, severe wind event. We understand the effects this event will have on our customers and appreciate the public’s patience as we do what is necessary to keep our communities safe and reduce the risk of wildfire,” said Michael Lewis, PG&E’s senior vice president of Electric Operations.Dozens of community centers will open during daylight hours while power is out. Those without power will have access to air conditioning, cellphone recharging stations and bottled water at these sites. For a list of locations, click 1353
