SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Coaster service through San Diego County will be unavailable for two weekends this month.To give crews time to complete infrastructure improvements along the rail corridor, North County Transit District announced Coaster service from Oct. 19-20 and 26-27 would be shut down.On Fridays before the closures, southbound Amtrak R2R trains A792 and A796 will make their trips to Santa Fe Depot, but Amtrak train A590 will stop at Oceanside Transit Center.During the service shut down, Amtrak Pacific Surfliner and Metrolink will not provide service to Oceanside Transit Center. Trips on connecting buses will need an Amtrak reservation. Amtrak bus services will also need an Amtrak reservation. Rail 2 Rail passes are not eligible.Bus service connecting Coaster stations will not be available, but some passengers may have BREEZE Route 101 or MTS connections available.While no passenger rail service will operate on the corridor during these times, other vehicles and equipment will be in use. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Construction began Friday on SeaWorld's next big attraction for the park, billed as California's tallest, fastest, and longest dive coaster.The first phase on the dive coaster started in conjunction with National Roller Coaster Day, as crews prepared the coaster site for the ride's foundation and utilities. The coaster will be located adjacent to the park's Journey to Atlantis attraction in the southeast corner of the park.SeaWorld previously said the ride would be called "Mako," after the endangered species of shark. At the crown of the attraction, riders will be suspended on a 45-degree angle before diving 143 feet at more than 60 miles per hour. For two minutes, riders will zip through inversions, a barrel roll and Immelmann loop, hammerhead turn, and flat spin along 2,500 feet of track. Each car will hold 18 riders in three, six-person rows.Aquatic education will play a role in the attraction as well. SeaWorld plans to partner with a conservation group to focus on the ride's conservation efforts.Switzerland-based Bolliger & Mabillard, which built SeaWorld Orlando's Kraken and Mako rides, will construction the San Diego coaster.SeaWorld plans to open the coaster to the public in 2020. 1476

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Another local man says he was shaken down by Mexican police, as Tijuana officials announced an investigation into the alleged incidents.Since January, 69-year-old Lupe Adame has been driving his truck back and forth from Escondido to Tijuana to help his friend renovate a home. On a Wednesday night in mid-June, he was returning from Tijuana, blocks from driving up to the line to cross the border, when he saw the police lights."Police car got over on my driver side and he said, 'Pull over!' ... Instead, he's set up a Christmas tree farm in the parking lot of Grossmont Center, with a pop-up eatery right next to it. "We're just trying to stay busy and trying to make money to keep the employees working and myself to keep playing the bills," Boghosian said. This — just one of the unique things happening in 2020 at malls across the county — which normally are preparing all sorts of events to welcome holiday shoppers."We feel with our outdoor setting, our big, wide-open spaces to walk, shopping here is as safe as it could be in this time," said Trevor Moore, marketing director at Grossmont Center.Moore said the mall had to cancel traditional events, including Santa's appearances, in exchange for a series of socially distant ones. On Thursday, it held a blood drive with hundreds of appointments.But Moore said the holiday decorations are up, the music is playing, and the mall's giving out free masks.Larger retailers, such as Best Buy and Target, have spread out their Black Friday specials over days or weeks.
