NAIROBI, May 4 (Xinhua) -- Kenya and China vowed to strengthen bilateral cooperation on Monday during a meeting between senior officials of the two friendly countries.     Wang Jiarui, visiting minister of the International Department of the Communist Party of China (CPC)'s Central Committee, said the Chinese ruling party would engage Kenya's political parties --the Orange Democratic Party-Kenya, the Party of National Unity and the Orange Democratic Party in support of the stability of the Kenyan Grand Coalition Government.     Wang said his country valued the eastern African nation as an important partner in the continent.     "Our bilateral relation is very cordial as this has been demonstrated by sincere trust and mutual cooperation between the two countries. We also expect to explore inter-party cooperation to enable the two countries exchange views and address issues of mutual interest," Wang said in talks with Kenyan Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka.     He said the Sino-Kenyan friendship dates back to ancient times and that the past four decades of bilateral diplomatic ties have witnessed great development of friendship and successful cooperation in such fields as politics, infrastructure and trade, as well as mutual support in international affairs.     "We will work with the three parties that form the ruling coalition government. We know that these three parties are key to the stability of this country. Without stability there can be no development," he said.     Musyoka expressed thanks for China's assistance for Kenya in the past years and introduced Kenya's efforts to push forward regional peace, stability and integration.     Musyoka said Kenyan political parties have a lot to learn from CPC in spurning economic growth.     "I am aware that China's booming economy is largely inspired by the effective management of the CPC of the country's economic affairs," he noted.     The vice president said Kenya and China will work together to find ways of resolving the challenges facing their citizens.     He also thanked China for refurbishing the road linking the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport to the UN headquarters in Nairobi and the construction of stadia in Kenya.     "Today China is constructing various roads across the country including the one from the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport to the United Nations headquarters. China has also oil exploration companies and with all these, we hope to expand other areas of cooperation and reach mutual understanding to enable both sides to benefit," he said.     Musyoka told Wang the east African nation appreciates the huge investment China has put into Kenya's infrastructure.     He expressed hope that more Chinese tourists will visit Kenya as part of efforts to balance trade, while urging China to launch direct flights to Nairobi to help spur economic growth and boost the country's tourism.     Musyoka pledged that the Kenyan coalition government attaches much importance to bilateral relations with China and will further strengthen bilateral cooperation in various fields.

BEICHUAN, Sichuan, May 10 (Xinhua) -- The quake-devastated Beichuan county seat in southwest China's Sichuan Province reopened Sunday to residents to mourn the dead ahead of the first anniversary of the disaster.     Some 21,000 people, or two-thirds of the county seat's population, were dead or missing in the 8.0-magnitude earthquake on May 12 last year, making the county the worst hit in the quake.     The county will be open for four days till Wednesday.     Mourners brought flowers, incense and candles and set off firecrackers in the ruins of former bus stations, county government buildings and homes. The police distributed bottled water to the crowd for free. BEIJING, June 21 -- Chinese stocks rose to a weekly high on Friday after the securities regulator lifted a nine-month ban on initial public offerings (IPOs), indicating investors' strengthened confidence in the market based on ample liquidity and clearer signs of economic recovery.     The Shanghai Composite Index, which tracks the bigger of China's bourses, rose 26.59, or 0.9 percent, to 2,880.49 at close, its highest close since July 28, 2008.     The CSI 300 Index, measuring exchanges in Shanghai and Shenzhen, gained 0.7 percent to 3,080. Investors are set to return to the bourses in a big way with the return of initial public offerings and robust economic indicators. The market barometer has also shown significant gains in the past few days. Shi Yan    "We expected the new IPOs to be the biggest bad news for the capital market this year," said James Yuan, chief investment officer of Everbright Pramerica Fund Management Co Ltd. "But now it is not as daunting, thanks to the improved economy, more liquidity and new listing rules."     Guilin Sanjin Pharmaceutical Co, a medium-sized drug firm, on Thursday night received regulatory approval from the China Securities Regulatory Commission (CSRC) to seek a stock exchange listing, marking the resumption of IPOs since September last year.     The company said it plans to float 46 million A shares on the Shenzhen bourse on June 29 and will start a road show for the same on June 22.     "The restarting of IPOs of smaller firms rather than the big caps indicates that the government aims to stabilize the market," said Dong Chen, senior analyst, CITIC China Securities. "If the market does not panic after the new round of IPOs, the regulator will grant more approvals next week, but probably for small caps."     Earlier reports said China State Construction Engineering Corp (CSCEC), the country's biggest home-builder, would probably be among the first batch of companies to issue 12 billion shares to the public and raise about 40 billion yuan.     Based on the number of new shares to be issued and the average price-earning ratio on the secondary market, analysts said the 32 companies now waiting could raise as much as 70 billion yuan through their IPOs.     "The loose monetary policy, coupled with the huge advance of the Shanghai Composite Index, has bolstered confidence that the stock market can withstand the added supply of stock," said Dong.     "Meanwhile, the anticipation of gains on their investments may propel more investors to test the market waters, when the bullish trend becomes clear," he said.     China's major market barometer has surged nearly 58 percent this year, thanks to the government's timely launch of the 4-trillion-yuan economic stimulus package and loose monetary policy.     The resumption of IPOs is also expected to give a strong boost to brokerages whose earnings are expected to improve on the investment banking revenues.     CITIC Securities gained 2.8 percent to 29.54 yuan, the highest in a year, while Sinolink jumped 10 percent to 21.46 yuan.     Shares of medical companies also outperformed on news of drugmaker Guilin Sanjin's listing and the spread of the H1N1 flu virus.     Beijing Tiantan Biological Products, a biological bacterin producer, jumped to its 10 percent daily limit for the second day in a row to 26.26 yuan after it said on Thursday that it had started to research bacterin for fighting the H1N1 flu virus.

GUANGZHOU, May 30 (Xinhua) -- South China's Guangdong Province reported one suspected A/H1N1 flu case late Saturday.     The case involved a 23-year-old Chinese Venezuelan. The female college student left Venezuela Tuesday and flied to Guangzhou, Guangdong's capital, Wednesday via Paris, and her relative drove her home in Foshan City, the provincial health department said.     She took a rest at home after showing flu symptoms Thursday and was sent to Foshan No.1 People's Hospital Friday.     Early Saturday, the woman was tested positive for A/H1N1 flu by the Foshan Center of Disease Control and Prevention. The Provincial Center of Disease Control and Prevention reexamined Saturday noon and the result was also positive. The case needs further testing.     China Saturday reported three new influenza A/H1N1 cases, bringing to 24 the total number of confirmed cases on the Chinese mainland.     The one in the southeastern province of Fujian involved a local who studied in Canada. The other two in Beijing involved a Chinese American and a Chinese student who studied in the United States.     All the cases but one on the mainland were found shortly after they came from countries hard hit by the A/H1N1 flu epidemic. Seven were in Beijing, four in Shanghai, six in Guangdong, three in Fujian, and one each in Sichuan, Shandong, Zhejiang and Hunan.     Eight cases have been discharged from hospital by Saturday afternoon, according to the Ministry of Health (MOH).     China raised vigilance against influenza A/H1N1 Friday after a patient in southern Guangdong Province was declared the first case of local transmission on the mainland. Medical experts are investigating into and analyzing the local transmission.     The patient, a 24-year-old woman living in Guangdong's capital city of Guangzhou, was believed to be infected by a man from New York on Monday. Guangdong provincial department of health confirmed both as A/H1N1 flu cases Friday noon.     Her flu symptoms have eased, Yin Zhibiao, deputy president of the Guangzhou No. 8 People's Hospital, said Saturday. But as the mainland's first case of local transmission, she would likely stay longer in hospital, Yin added.
