CINCINNATI -- Police have identified a suspect in the theft of a butterfly from the Krohn Conservatory.Jamie Revis, of Springfield Township, is wanted on a charge of theft, Cincinnati police announced Friday. Earlier, police said someone stole a blue morpho butterfly from the conservatory's butterfly show April 15.The species is native to Central and South American forests.University of Cincinnati biology professors Stephen Matter and Patrick Guerra said last week that the butterfly was likely dead, given its biological need for a warmer climate than the one Cincinnati has experienced at the time. 622

CHULA VISTA (CNS) - Four people were displaced when a fire damaged their South Bay home Sunday morning, authorities said.Dispatchers were alerted at about 9:20 a.m. to a fire at a house near the intersection of Madden and Donax avenues, according to the San Diego Police Department. The area is just west of Beyer Boulevard.Firefighters found a small fire in the attic, and were able to get everyone out of the house and extinguish the flames, a San Diego Fire-Rescue Department official said. The cause of the fire wasn't immediately known. The Red Cross was called to assist with finding shelter for the home's occupants, the Fire-Rescue official said. 662

CHULA VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) - A new exhibit at the Chula Vista Library's Heritage Museum is telling the stories of the South Bay's Holocaust Survivors."History repeats itself, and if you don't recall it, then it's going to happen again," says Curator Sandra Scheller.The exhibit, "RUTH: Remember Us The Holocaust," focuses on Scheller's mother, Ruth. She survived three concentration camps before coming to Chula Vista. It also features 11 other survivors who called the area home over the last 70+ years.Scheller says only five survivors are left in the South Bay, and she wants to make sure no one forgets what they went through, or how they made Chula Vista a better place throughout their lives."This was a labor of love," Scheller says. "I've loved every second of it."The exhibit features photos of the survivors, artifacts from Jewish life before, during and after the Holocaust, and personal touches from Scheller's family. It includes replicas of the yellow stars her grandparents wore during World War II, clothing and even a tooth from her grandmother."She had to break this tooth out because it had some gold in it," Scheller explains. "The Nazis would have killed her for this gold."The exhibit opens Sunday, January 12 and will remain on display throughout the year. CHULA VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) -- The Sweetwater Union High School District is working with teachers to prepare for distance learning if and when classes resume after Spring Break. The district is currently closed because of coronavirus concerns, but district officials tell 10News plans are already in motion to figure out a way to complete the school year. District spokesperson Manny Rubio tells 10News the district is looking at distance learning, which can mean a number of things. Teachers could either teach virtually from home or provide students with learning material. Rubio says a majority of students already do a lot of online work and many of them have take home devices. The plans include addressing concerns that some students might not have devices or internet at their homes. Wednesday night, the district and the teachers union sent out a letter with guidance and information for teachers on how to move forward. All schools were deep cleaned and sanitized. Some schools are allowing teachers to enter their classrooms to get whatever materials they may need. For now, the plan is to have teachers return from Spring Break and allow for 2-3 days of planning before giving any direction to students and their parents. Officials are also keeping a close eye on updates from the state and the department of education. In the meantime, the district is still offering meal distribution while students are out of school. 1438

(KGTV) — Upstairs in the visiting room he teared up saying this was a big misunderstanding.Thomas Escajeda, 61, is accused of threatening St. Rose of Lima church and a school at 293 H St. Tuesday, according to Chula Vista Police. Police says he threatened to harm parishioners attending a mass for All Saints Day on Thursday at 8 a.m.Escajeda, however, told 10News from jail Thursday that the accusations are a mistake. Escajeda, who has attended the church for a year, said he called the church with the idea to sell hot chocolate, coffee and maybe some donuts to warm the congregation up during the cold morning hours before service.He says it was the phrase, "I'd make a killing," that sent the person on the other end into a panic.RELATED: Chula Vista church receives threat against All Saints Day massThe mass and Thursday classes were canceled despite the arrest.If Escajeda did say those words the timing couldn't have been worse with the synagogue shooting in Pittsburgh last Saturday.Thursday, he had one message — directed to his wife and stepdaughter."I miss them every day, even though I've been here for a day and a half, basically think before you speak," Escajeda said.10News has reached out to the church to verify Escajeda's story.
