The National Rifle Association and a mall in Illinois stepped in for a boy who was left in tears after a mall Santa told him he couldn't have a Nerf gun for Christmas.According to USA Today, the Dec. 6 exchange between the mall Santa at the Harlem Irving Plaza in Norridge, Illinois, and Sabella DeCarlo's son Michael went viral last week.In the video, Michael burst into tears after being told no several times by the mall Santa when he asked for a Nerf gun for Christmas, USA Today reported. In an interview with Fox News, Sabella told the network she was shocked by Santa's response, thinking he may have misheard her son, and then thought it was a joke. But Santa's response was still no.After hearing about what had happened, officials with the Harlem Irving Plaza sent a Santa out to Michael's home to gift him with a Nerf gun.In a Facebook post, the mall and the third-party Santa company were "distraught and deeply apologetic" about what transpired between Michael and the Santa and wanted to make sure Michael wasn't sad."We are happy to report that the "real" Santa visited the boy at his home today to bring him a nerf gun! We hope we restored Christmas magic to this boy and his family with Santa's special visit," the mall wrote in a Facebook post. 1268
The Pennsylvania Supreme Court released new congressional district lines Monday, replacing the old Republican-drawn maps in time for the state's May primary.House Republican and Democratic operatives said Monday afternoon they are still analyzing the partisan makeup of the new districts. But in a swing state where Republicans hold 13 House seats to Democrats' five, the balance appears all but certain to tip in Democrats' direction. The biggest changes come in the Philadelphia suburbs, where three Republican-held seats -- Reps. Ryan Costello, Brian Fitzpatrick and the retiring Pat Meehan -- were already Democratic targets. The new maps appear more compact and suburban than the existing district boundaries and an alternative that state legislative Republicans had submitted -- and one of those districts is now made up of just Montgomery County, a Democratic stronghold that the GOP had proposed dividing heavily.Republicans in the Pennsylvania legislature have said they intend to challenge the new maps in federal court. The Supreme Court previously refused to hear a challenge to the state high court's ruling that the previous maps were gerrymandered in a way that violated the Pennsylvania Constitution. 1221

The hurricane that swept ashore in Louisiana less than 24 hours ago has weakened to a tropical depression and is bringing heavy rain to western Mississippi. The National Hurricane Center says maximum sustained winds of what was once Hurricane Delta were clocked at 35 mph at around 10 a.m. local time Saturday. At that time, the storm was centered about 65 miles north-northwest of Jackson, Mississippi, and was moving northeast at 16 mph.Tropical storm-force winds gusts will persist for a few more hours over portions of Mississippi and southeastern Arkansas during the day Saturday.Officials say heavy rainfall will lead to flash flooding and minor river flooding across Lower Mississippi and Tennessee Valleys Saturday and into the Southern Appalachians through Sunday.“Minor to major river flooding will continue across portions of Louisiana and Mississippi through much of the week,” NHC said.Hurricane Delta made landfall as a Category 2 storm in southwestern Louisiana.
