She's on the school's track team and JV basketball squad. Along with the usual coarse load, she will be taking college entrance exams. Frost has just added something else to her plate."During these times, people should think of ways to push themselves outside their comfort zone to help," said Frost.Keenly aware of how families are juggling the challenges served up with distance learning, Frost decided to offer free zoom tutoring sessions in math and English for local elementary and middle school students."I know how difficult school can be. I struggled in elementary school ... With the added stresses of distance learning, I'm just want to do my part to help these families and to help the kids excel," said Frost.Frost posted her services on the Nextdoor app, even put out an application. She already has four kids signed up and that number is expected to grow. Depending on the response, she could recruit her friends to create a tutoring club to help more families. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Some students in the San Diego Unified School District are being allowed to return to campus Tuesday as the district begins the first phase of its reopening plan.The district began the 2020-21 school year on Aug. 31 with a distance learning program for its students. In recent weeks, during the distance learning period, teachers have been working to determine which students they believe would benefit from appointment-based in-person learning sessions.Appointment sessions will be voluntary; the rest of the time, those students will continue with distance learning.SD Unified officials said they’ve also been working with health experts in designing a reopening plan that would ensure all students and staff are safe.Despite the reopening plan, there are some parents who still do not believe it’s enough.On Tuesday afternoon, a group of parents called Reopen SDUSD has scheduled a rally at 4 p.m. in front of the Board of Education building to voice their concerns about the reopening plan.The group, which held a similar rally last month, is calling for a more detailed reopening plan and they want the district to be more transparent.Reopen SDUSD has gathered thousands of signatures for a petition urging the district to allow more students to return to campus.ABC 10News spoke with some parents at the September rally who said they want options because distance learning is not working for them.One mother said her children “dread going on Zoom. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Students at Gompers Preparatory Academy were evacuated following a threat the school said it received Monday. San Diego Police say they received a call around 3:50 p.m. after someone reportedly left a voicemail on an administrative line at the school, making a vague bomb threat. A staff member at the school pulled a fire alarm, initiating the evacuation. "GPA received a telephonic threat after school today and the campus has been evacuated," the school said in an Instagram post. According to authorities, the students were evacuated to a nearby park. Roughly 80 students were still on campus along with 30 to 35 staff members. Police arrived and used a K9 to comb through the school, but found no trace of a bomb. An investigation is underway to determine who left the voicemail. Today was the first day students returned to class at the academy.
