CARLSBAD, Calif. (KGTV) - For the second time this year, Carlsbad-based airline, Cal Jet, has abruptly canceled all scheduled flights and stopped booking new flights indefinitely. Kelly Skemps was scheduled to fly from McClellan-Palomar airport to Las Vegas on Friday for her brother’s 50th birthday. But Thursday morning she got a call and a text alerting her that her flight had been canceled.“I was shocked,” said Skemps, who admits she was initially excited for the airline to be open.“I thought it was going to be perfect,” she said.Cal Jet bills itself as an easy and competitively-priced flight option from North County to Las Vegas. But this is the second time the small airline has inconvenienced customers by cancelling flights and blocking out their schedule. In February, Cal Jet went dark for nearly two weeks. President George Wozniak said the company they lease the plane from, Elite Air, needed it to fly NCAA basketball players. When they finally resumed operations in March, Wozniak told 10News, “we feel very confident going forward that we have the extra crew and airplanes necessary to fulfill that travel mission for these people.”Cal Jet did not respond to a request for comment after the latest round of cancellations, though a customer service representative attributed the problems to a lack of “aircraft and crew availability.”In an email to customers sent late Thursday, Cal Jet attributed the temporary closure to their efforts to expand to other cities. 1498

CALIFORNIA — Thousands of San Diego residents are saving big by "buying nothing."It's just past 9 a.m. on a late November in Bay Ho and lots of pieces of bread, rolls and muffins are ready for taking. Becky Sloan is the first to arrive. The food is set up outside the home of Tomira Baca-Craig, who runs a food co-op that divvies out extra bread donated by bakeries and stores. On this morning, she posted the giveaway on her "Buy Nothing" Facebook group. It's not just bread. Sloan showed reporters with KGTV in San Diego photos of baseballs, crafting items, shoes for her children and home decor, just some of the stuff she's received in the last two years. All of the items were offered up by neighbors on the Bay Park/Bay Ho Buy Nothing page."I think I might have saved anywhere from ,500 to ,000," Sloan said.Sloan actually gifts more items than she receives."It's awesome. You can give just about anything away, and you can receive just about anything you ask for," Sloan said. 1013

Burger King is offering one-cent Whoppers when you’re “at” McDonald’s during their “Whopper Detour” campaign. According to the restaurant chain, if you download the Burger King mobile app on your phone and drive to a McDonald’s store, you can get the discount from Tuesday until December 12, 2018. They say “at McDonald’s” means within 600 feet of one — no, McDonald’s isn’t going to service you a Burger King sandwich. Once you're on the app, you’ll be able to order a one-cent Whopper and pick it up at the nearest participating Burger King location. More information about the deal can be found on the app.  643
